Hello! I have a Flex Pass membership and for some time I was using my HDHomeRun Extend for the DVR feature on a Drobo without any issues at all. Suddenly, about a year ago, Plex stopped seeing my HDHomeRun device. I thought it probably was an issue with the Drobo version of Plex and I got resigned to not using the feature until I could replace my Drobo.

The surprise is that finally got a Synology system and after installing Plex, I am bumping into the exact same issue. I try to set up DVR, nothing is found, go into “Don’t see your HDHomeRun device? Enter its network address manually”, type the IP and I just get a message saying that “There was a problem adding the device”.

Interestingly, I can play media anywhere from the tuner using the HDHomeRun app without a problem.

I have been doing some searching and I see people having this problem in the past, but I could not find a clear path to address it.

Anybody has any suggestions? I was thinking about perhaps replacing the tuner, but from the compatibility chart, it seems that HDHomeRun is the only option.

Thanks!

I have a similar problem recently with Plex and HDHomeRun Dual.

This is what I see in the logs:

Okay, I was on Plex Beta version 1.25.0.5246. This version must have some errors.

I downgraded to 1.24.5.5173 and it is working now.

No luck downgrading. I deleted the app and reinstalled with the default version that Synology loads (1.21.0-3744) and same.

I went ahead and ordered a new HDHomeRun Dual to see it that makes any difference.

I am having the same issue with my HDHomeRun Connect Quatro HDHR5-4US. It was running fine for years, then I moved in March. Didn’t reconnect it until a few days ago and it won’t see my Tuner. I upgraded to the newest version of plex beta but that didn’t help as well as upgraded the firmware on my tuner. How did you downgrade?

I tried just unistalling Plex and then reinstalling with the version that Synology offers, which is older than the one on Plex’s site. Did not make a difference for me, though.

I ended up rebuilding my Plex system on a new system while the other one is running. I loaded it with PlexMediaServer-1.15.3.876-ad6e39743-x86. It found the DVR, then asked me to enter my zip or my XMLTV file. When I entered the zip, it didn’t do anything. Now I have to locate the XMLTV. There is a link for it but it costs more money to gain access to the third party. I really don’t understand why this is being difficult.

EDIT: I decided to upgrade the version I installed to PlexMediaServer-1.25.0.5246-cb2507e4d-x86. When I went back in to see if maybe it will do an upgrade it let me add the DVR . It used my zip code and pulled down all of the channels. Kind of weird.

They changed EPG providers around version 1.22 so the servers with epg data for version 1.15 no longer exist.

Today I got a replacement HD HomeRun, this time a new Connect Duo. But unfortunately, the problem persists with this unit. I can still see the HD HomeRun on my network, and the HomeRun app shows the TV signal just fine. But I get the same error when trying to add the tuner to Plex.

So… back to square 1. Since I have replaced both the NAS and the tuner, it has to be something either with my modem or with Plex itself.

Solution found, although rather clunky. If I plug the HDHomeRun straight to the second ethernet port of the Synology, Plex finds it. Now, only Plex seems to see it, the HomeRun app does not. So it looks like the issue is likely with the router.

So, rather than messing with the router, I am giving up on the HomeRun app and I am moving the HDHomeRun and antenna directly to the Synology.

Mine disappeared again. I thought you needed the HDHomeRun app to bring in the channels. Then you use Plex to pull in the channels from HDHomeRun?

I opened a support ticket with Silicondust to see if they can assist with troubleshooting my HDHR5-4US tuner.
So far I have reloaded my Plex Server with the newest version and it finds it and disappears. I have updated the firmware for my HDHR5-4US. I have opened every port in my firewall for the HDHomeRun per the SiliconDust support site. I have loaded the HDHomeRun app on my Plex Server hoping it will open the port. I have also added a port entry in my registry per the SiliconDust support site. I have also powered off my HDHR5-4US, let it sit and powered it back on. Moved ports. I am able to connect to the HDHR5-4US through the HDHomeRun apps and directly from the http site using the IP address. The only thing I have not done was change the IP Address. I will update you guys with support details once I hear something. I forgot I recently upgraded my home network to a 5 Mesh Access Point System, replacing my Night Hawk router after reading @ [nokturnnia] post but that didn’t change anything either.

I still have not heard back from SiliconDust.

Upload your logs.

I am curious about why it is skipping my virtual BDA Driver and why my drv_file.ini file is missing?

@rbrothers The newer HDHomeRun’s don’t need the software, you can go to https://my.hdhomerun.com/ and it should find your tuner to scan/enable/disable channels.

The tuner service is either crashing or can’t open port 32600.

Beginning with Plex Media Server version 1.1.0 and newer, it is simple to quickly gather your server logs.

  1. Go to Settings > Manage > Troubleshooting in Plex Web App
  2. Click the Download Logs button
  3. Save the resulting zip file and drag and drop here.
