Live TV stopped working on Plex with HDHomeRun

I normally use live TV on Plex on the AppleTV, IOS and the Web browser. All three have stopped working as of today. HDHomeRun works fine using its own app. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I do get the guide, but selecting any channel to play returns an error. I also Have a lifetime Plex Pass. Going in and redoing the Live TV setup on Plex web never sees the HDHomeRun. Manually inputing the IP address for the HDHomerun never works.

I found the same issue this morning.
The Live TV/DVR simply quit and when clicking the Live TV & DVR menu, I’m show the setup menu along with this error.
Unable to load DVRs

Same here, WTF

Add me to the list.
I watch TV every day using an HDHomerun Prime.
Since this morning it cannot tune in channels despite the HDHomerun app being able to do so without issue.
Tried rebooting Plex Server application, computer it is running on, and HDHomerun.
Running Version 1.16.1.1291 on macOS Mojave.
Hardware Model HDHR3-CC
Firmware Version 20190621 which was pending when I looked this morning so I applied it thinking that was the issue. It was not.

Me too :frowning:

Running HDHomerun HDHR4-2DT. PMS Version 1.16.1.1291 on Win10. I’m in the UK.

It seems to work occasionally for a little bit after restarting PMS and then just hangs . And reloading the page brings up the message “Unable to load DVRs” and the Introducing Live TV & DVR setup page. Which when I click the button hangs when looking for compatible devices.

Help please!

Same for me and I am using a USB WinTV-DualHD tuner.

I am using PMS v1.16.2.1297 on Win10 in the UK and have tried rebooting, powering off/on.

Win TV 8 can see the tuner and works normally.

Same. Latest software on PMS and HDHomerun quad.

Scheduled recordings just not recording.

Keep loosing the live tv tab from apple tv too. Have retuned and rescanned to no luck either. .

Same here!
Since I installed Plex v1.16.1.1291 on my Asustor (i3 CPU/16Gb RAM), Plex is unable to find my HDHomeRun Expand (HDHR5-4DC).
When I manually enter IP address, it does find it. Since I’m based in the Netherlands, the automatic guide is disabled, because of the updates announced concerning XMLTV.
However, when I load an XMLTV file and assign channels, the page keeps loading forever and the Live TV is just not working.
It’s also quite impossible to downgrade to the previous version of Plex

Please fix this a.s.a.p. since this is the reason I bought the HD HomeRun.
Otherwise, please release the previous version under a new version number.

Reverted back to the last version which no longer showed live tv as an option, but at least now it shows my HDHomerun as available to be added.
Unfortunately that also means my channels need to be re-added and the guide data needs to be downloaded and indexed again. What a PITA.

Same issue for me but instead of XMLTV im using the Plex provided EPG (looks like its the new one as the options are different from last week). Mine also seems load forever once I’ve selected my channels and assigned EPG.

The Last version Of HDHomeRun is where my problem started and persisted to the new version.

Same for me. Unable to load DVRs. I also updated the HDHomerun Firmware today for my HDHR3-CC. Firmware is now at 20190621.

Sometimes after restarting Plex Media Server, the DVRs shows up, but then when you go back to that page, it shows “Unable to load DVRs” again and “Welcome to Live TV” and wants me to setup all over again. Not doing that yet.

Recordings are working in that we are getting files created with watchable video in them, but the shows that are being recorded are not as indicated. I believe that this is due to the guide not getting updated or refreshed.

Review other posts of people with similar problems, most people have ended up rolling back PMS to Version 1.16.0.1226, deleting the DVR, upgrading to the current build 1.16.2.1297, then adding the DVR back. One poster said that all scheduled recordings were still there.

So far, I have uninstalled build 1.16.2.1297 and re-installed 1.16.0.1226 and the DVR appears to be working now.

I am hesitant to remove the DVR because I am afraid that I will lose all of my scheduled recordings. But will probably do it anyway to get back to current build.

Update:: As previously stated, I uninstalled build 1.16.2.1297 and re-installed 1.16.0.1226 and the DVR was working again.

Tonight, I created a system image backup of my C: drive so that I had something to revert back to.

After that I deleted the DVR, upgraded to 1.16.2.1297, then added the DVR back. It is currently refreshing the EPG. All of my scheduled recordings seem to still be there.

I will report further after I have time to check things out.

Update 2: It has been a couple of days since I un-installed Plex Media Server 1.16.2.1297, deleted the DVR, then upgraded back to 1.16.2.1297 and added back the DVR.

All seems to be working as it should.

I had the same symptoms after 1.16.1.1291 update however if I restarted PMS mine allowed one “touch” of either Live TV or the DVR settings. Would not work after that until another restart. So deleted the DVR immediately after a restart then it was able to find my HDHomeRun and I could add the DVR back. All was well afterwards. I did not have to load older version.

Where is Plex Support? I don’t see any Feedback from Plex that there is an issue with Live TV & DVR Recordings with the latest Plex release and are they are working on a solution. Some people have reverted to an earlier version with success. We should not have to resort to uninstalling and reinstalling versions for PAID content. It is the responsibility of Plex to keep the users informed and patch issues expeditiously.

This is done on a Mac.
After Playing around un-installing Plex Media Server 1.16.2.1297 and installing 1.16.0.1226 and deleting the DVR. I could not get through the DVR setup. Kept hanging on the zip code entry and my IOS app would not work with a server running 1.16.0. So I deleted 1.16.0.1226 and download a fresh copy of Plex Media Server 1.16.2.1297 from their site. To my surprise I was able to setup the DVR without any issues. Looks like the Web server didn’t do a good download. So my suggestion is to just delete the Plex Media Server.app and perform a fresh download from the Plex website. All setting are kept, then perform the DVR setup

I’m having this same problem. I’ve restarted PMS a number of times, sometime the HDHomeRun tuners show up, others they don’t. How do I get this back up and running? Is there anyway to get support from Plex?

I’m also having the same issue. Windows 10, Version 1.16.2.1297.

For those of you who have reverted back to a previous version, can you describe in more detail the full process to do so? I have found the install file for 1.16.0.1226. I want to make sure I don’t lose my settings & libraries. Do I use the Win10 “Add or remove programs” in settings? Or is there another way to uninstall the current version of Plex to make sure settings are kept?

I’ve had the same issue for a couple of weeks and I’ve been just as frustrated as everyone else. Why has Plex not responded? Lack of responses are worrying, but hoping they noticed that whatever change they made was a mess and they’re busy working on fixes and not reading the forums.

I want to thank everyone here – the responses from other users have helped me fix mine. I have a Synology NAS running Plex Media Server. Problems and weirdness started with 1.16.0.1220. I had updated to 1.16.2.1297. I tried to delete DVR and that would never work. It would not find my HDHomeRun when the DVR was not listed, etc. I tried several things, but I can confirm one combination that worked:

As others have stated:

  1. Uninstall the app and install 1.16.0… I was worried I’d lose data, but I did not.
  2. Removed DVR once 1.16.0… is running. This really worked because when I closed the Plex client and went back in, Live TV and DVR was gone from home page.
  3. Upgrade to PMS 1.16.2.1297
  4. Go to Settings and add DVR back. My HDHomeRun was already listed, I was able to setup the guide (on previous attempts where DVR appeared deleted, this stuck after putting in zip code) and watch TV with no issues.

Again, I lost no data and my recordings are still setup. We’ll see if Archer is recorded successfully tonight.

Also, I save the past few PMS packages just for occasions like this – never had to use them until now.

Next question is: Do I upgrade to 16.3.1402??

Hope this helps!
