I purchased the HDHomeRun Prime back in May and I finally opened the package this past weekend. I also acquired a cable card from Verizon since I have FiOS. I set it up and activated it, then rebooted and did not touch it since. I won’t have a chance to play with it until this weekend. So I wanted use it as a DVR since I have Plex Pass. I have no idea what to do next and if I need to purchase anything else. I am stopping by Best Buy soon to pick up some stuff. Is there anything I should purchase to get everything up and running? I have a 5TB external usb hard drive available or an 8TB if that’s really needed. I read on the Plex website that I may need to purchase a specific wireless hard drive from WD. I did see on the HDHomeRun Prime that there was a USB port on the back so I was hoping I could attach a hard drive there or perhaps use Plex Cloud or something to that effect. Sorry I’m a newbie and really just found out about this forum and I haven’t had a chance to peruse anything. Wanted to write a post before I head over to Best Buy. I live in MD and am making a special trip to Best Buy in DE to purchase items tax free so I was hoping to reach out to get some help.
Do you currently have an up and running Plex Media Server?
Or are you starting this venture from scratch?
If you’re already up and running, then you likely have everything you need… minus direction…
Yes I have multiple plex media servers running. One on a desktop and another from my MacBook. That’s good, I didn’t want to purchase another hard drive anyway.
Do you know a good place to get instructions for setup? Or is everything self explanatory? I should have played with the HDHomeRun after setup.
