If you’re on the west coast, it’s not a problem; I believe the issue is that some of the Premium TV channels are west coast only feeds so this method of using Comcast as the primary guide doesn’t work for anyone outside of the west coast feed areas.
Depends on your physical location. HDHomerun Premium TV uses some channels from the pacific time zones, some from eastern and some from the national lineups. I was correcting mine last night and have been able to match up almost all the channels. It is an issue because if I want to record a certain channel and the guide is off by two hours it records the wrong program. I am in the mountain time zone so most of the west channels are good but I have had to make changes to a few of them. It appears I will be able to match almost all the channels with the exception of some of the more obscure OTA channels. I was able to use the Channels App on AppleTV (it shows the correct guide for all channels) and the Comcast lineup for my zip Code online to find the different channel numbers for each channel. Then I was able to match them up and refresh the guide. My guide is refreshing one last time and I should have all the major channels all matched up.
Dang! So, I just went to the SiliconDust Website and checked. Looks like they have three different options, (National, East and Pacific). So the channels that have the pacific zone will be off in the guide? I should be good for National and Eastern on the east coast guide data?
I have be looking to consolidate, I have channels and Plex. I was using Channels as DVR and LiveTV. Plex for Movies and OnDemand of recorded TV.
I’m on mountain time. For me, 11 of SD’s premium channels don’t match the EPG from my cable provider, Cable One. It’s not just the forced pacific channels, it’s actually a mix of pacific, national, and eastern that are mismatched. These are the channels that don’t match for me:
USA
SYFY
DSC
TLC
BRAVO
APL
NGC
FOOD
TRAV
HGTV
CTOON
The issue of the local cable provider’s guide not having the OTA subchannels would be another benefit of Plex allowing multiple guides.
Have you tried Comcast’s guide? I am mountain time as well in Utah and I have been able to match almost all of the cable channels. I only have a couple left that don’t match up. I had to leave for work but as soon as I get back home I will report back on which ones I wasn’t able to match. I was also able to match all the major OTA channels like CBS, ABC, NBC, etc.
HdHomerun matches you to either the east or pacific option depending on your location. Once they have done that then you can match to a local cable company’s guide. But yes if you are in the east then the pacific ones would likely be off on the guide until Plex allows the guide information to be pulled from multiple sources.
In case this helps anyone. I am on Mountain Time with the Comcast Digital Cable as the provider on the guide. Here is what doesn’t match up:
HLN
Paramount
TruTV
Lifetime
National Geographic
NickHD
FreeForm
Everything else matches up.
Yeah, that video has been around for three months now and doesn’t really address the issue being discussed at this point.
Tivo has been doing this for years and even has software to remove the recordings to your computer for editing (removing of commercials). I use a java based free product called kmttg. It has been developed to even work outside of Tivo.
Tivo is not much of a big player now but they did win their case in court. I don’t thing SD has anything to worry about. They now have commercial skip right on their remote control. They are using humans to map the commercials instead of a program. FYI
For anyone that doesn’t know. If you delete your DVR and re-add there are a bunch of new guides you can choose from. I am in the mountain west time zone and I chose a new one called utopia - digital (utopia provides fiber internet and cable in Utah) and it is spot on with the premium TV channels as far as I can tell and also pulls in the OTA channels correctly with the guide. There are options for Premium TV East and West but they currently don’t allow you to pull in the OTA channels. I thought I would post this in hopes that you all can find guides that will pull in to correctly match your programming with the Plex guide.
thanks for the tip, will check it out later
Yeah, if Plex would allow us to have multiple EPGs (even if it was per tuner), I’d be in good shape. Right now, it’s either using Schedule’s Direct and epg123, or leaving off channels for the sake of convenience.
I have HDHomerun 4 turner and OTA. Is the limitation with Plex that only one guide can be selected per PMS? I wonder if using two HDHomeruns (8 tuners total), 1 = OTA, 2 = Premium, would I be able to select a different guide per DVR?
Yes.
I’m not sure what you mean by DVR? Do you mean one DVR per PMS? Do you mean DVR as in tuner device (e.g. 4 tuners per device and 2 devices with a total of 8 tuners). If so, no, you can not select different EPGs if both devices are on the same PMS.
there is currently only ONE guide per PMS.
number of tuners currently is irrelevant.
you would need a second PMS to have second guide, and that guide would only be on that PMS.
if you had 2 tuners, 2 pms, then you would need to designate 1 tuner to 1 pms, and the other tuner to the other pms.
you would not overlap them.
you would have to set recordings according to the applicable tuner/pms.
so basically you would have 1 tuner/pms/guide for OTA.
and another tuner/pms/guide for PREMIUM

This is what I meant. Thank you for the response. I suspected this was the case but I did not have a second HDHomerun to test.
yes I meant tuner device, not how many channels it can tune.
All of the sudden all my recordings are starting 5 minutes too early and ending 5 minutes early. Anyone else having this issue? So I am catching the end of the show before the one I want and also is ending before the show I set to record ends. This is happening across the board on all channels
Have you checked the time on the computer running Plex to make sure it’s correct?
This has been happening with my DVR for Comedy Central. At first, I thought I was using an EST guide instead of PST, but that wasn’t the issue. The Daily Show starts recording 5 minutes early, but my NAS (WD PR2100) has always had the correct time.
This is the only channel I’ve noticed the issue on, so as a temporarily fix, I’ve told The Daily Show to continue recording for 5 minutes longer.
