HDHomeRun Prime and Plex Server

I’m looking to connect a HDHomeRun Prime w/ Cable Card (Verizon FiOS) to a Plex server and have a few questions I was hoping to put out there.

  1. Will the Live TV/DVR of Plex Pass allow me to access ALL of the cable channels accessible via a HDHomeRun Prime w/ Cable Card (Verizon FiOS) or just those tunable via QAM? I see on the post for “Supported DVR Tuners and Antennas” (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/225877427) it only mentions HDHomeRun products in the context of North America (ATSC /QAM).

  2. Where are the recorded DVR files being stored? Can they be designated and save on the Plex Server or would I have to pay the $35 subscription from Silicone Dust to use their DVR service. In the “Create a DVR” page (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/225877347-Live-TV-DVR) it only shows how to select the device, but makes no mention of designating where there storage is.

Thanks for your time, attention, and help with these questions.

Not sure about #1 but for #2:
The DVR files are stored locally where you tell them to be stored. I created 2 new libraries called DVR TV and DVR Movies. They point to one of my NAS drives and when I schedule a recording I tell it where I want it to put the files. You do not need to pay for the Silicon Dust DVR service.
Here is an article for recording:

    • You will be able to view channels as long as they aren’t protected. I have FiOS (Although frontier now) with a cable card and also using the HDHR Prime. HBO, SHO, CINEMAX etc all work, I’ve only seen one protected channel and it was the espn goal line or nfl redzone channel that flips between NFL games when a team is about to score, don’t remember which. Downside of using the cable card and seeing all channels - you have to uncheck all the standard def channels one by one if you only want HD stuff…takes a few minutes of clicking, scrolling, clicking, scrolling, etc etc etc.
    • It will save the recordings in your tv show library on your server, you do not have to pay any monthly fee.

It seems like you’ve had a lot of success with Frontier FIOS and a Cable Card, but I’ve heard that it isn’t always as easy. Can you record every channel except that NFL Goal Line on that you mentioned, or have their DRM channels changed? Would you recommend this setup to an existing FIOS customer over an OTA antenna?
Thanks!

So are you saying HBO and Cinemax should show up? I just got my HD Homerun set up…and currently HBO and Cinemax are not showing in the channel list…I am in NJ

As far as 1.) Is concerned, as the others have stated, you can specify which the recordings are saved. As far as 2.) Is concerned, I get every channel that i subscribe to and get on my other TVs with cable boxes. I don’t subscribe to HBO, Showtime, etc. so I cannot comment on those channels.
