I’m looking to connect a HDHomeRun Prime w/ Cable Card (Verizon FiOS) to a Plex server and have a few questions I was hoping to put out there.
Will the Live TV/DVR of Plex Pass allow me to access ALL of the cable channels accessible via a HDHomeRun Prime w/ Cable Card (Verizon FiOS) or just those tunable via QAM? I see on the post for “Supported DVR Tuners and Antennas” (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/225877427) it only mentions HDHomeRun products in the context of North America (ATSC /QAM).
Where are the recorded DVR files being stored? Can they be designated and save on the Plex Server or would I have to pay the $35 subscription from Silicone Dust to use their DVR service. In the “Create a DVR” page (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/225877347-Live-TV-DVR) it only shows how to select the device, but makes no mention of designating where there storage is.
Thanks for your time, attention, and help with these questions.
- Yes you can user a HDHomeRun Prime with a cable card(Comcast) - I have 3
- I have access to all of my channels except the “protected” ones - hbo and showtime - basically the premium channels
- You specify where the recordings are stored by creating a TV Shows library and specifying the location and no you don’t have to pay Silicone Dust for a sub
Hope this helps!
I have comcast as well. I have noticed some channels that are not listed as DRM in hdhomerun play audio but not video via plex. they do work however with the hdhomerun app on my mac. any idea why this is?
I have Fios. With a cable card it will let you access everything except items that don’t have the CopyOnce bit enabled. (No HBO, EPIX, SHOWTIME, also no fox distributed channels FX, National Geographic and a couple others) Without the cable card it will pull QAM Channels which are only the local channels not basic cable. You don’t have to pay the $35 to Silicon. The files will be stored on media local to the server you are building for the most part. Essentially you tell it where to store the files.
