I am considering using the Plex DVR feature and getting rid of my DVR from Verizon (save some money). However, if I get a CableCard from Verizon and put it in an HDHomeRun Prime, will I be able to record all channels, not just the clear QAM ones?
From my understanding no. Any channels broadcast from Verizon with the Copy Once setting will not be able to be recorded by Plex.
Any chance that could change at some point? OTA is not an option for me (iIm in a valley). I wanted to cut cost by at least eliminating the monthly DVR fee.
This is true with Time Warner as well.
A complete scam as the HDHomerun not only won’t record those channels… you cannot even watch them.
When I opted for s Prime to get rid of cable boxes I lost most of the important channels like CNN, Fox, TLC, Discovery… etc.
Silicon Dust needs to get with the program and resolve this as for me, I lost MUCH basic functionality…
I’ve read on a different site: “Verizon FiOS flags all channels as CCI = 0x00 to allow MRV.”. Anybody have an experience with this on FiOS? Makes sense because of their multi-room dvr capability.
In NJ on FIOS, I think only HBO and Fox cable (e.g. Fox News, FX, Nat Geo) are DRM protected. I can record/watch live on my nvidia shield pretty much all others. I am fine not watching Fox News and all others have content available on their android tv app. FIOS is pretty usable otherwise. i know other providers are completely dead in water due to DRM.

SiliconDust has been hard at work on this and here in Staten Island, NY, I can watch ALL of the channels through my HDHomeRun Prime using HDHomeRun View, and I can record them as well… Finally my family can enjoy my HBO subscription on our Windows 10 computers. Hopefully I can point Plex to the DVR output folder so recordings show up there, I need to test that. The HDHomeRun View experience isn’t horrible, but I’d prefer to use Plex if possible. I’m using Windows 10 on all of my computers, so I don’t know how any of this works on prior OSs. There must be some licensing requirement for recording DRM channels that Plex isn’t willing to deal with? It would be wonderful if Plex supported the DRM channels, but until that happens I’m stuck with recording through HDHomeRunView. But, DRM capable DVR is here and working well for me at least, just not through Plex.
