HDHomeRun Quatro - h.264?

I hijacked another thread with this question but since that thread is “answered” I don’t think it’s getting any action.

Does anyone have any idea? Does the removal of commercials in Plex convert the captured video into h.264 from the mpeg2 of the Quatro?

After all, if it’s going to transcode it to h.264 after the capture to remove the commercials, why buy the Extend with hardware transcoding?

No it does not transcode to mp4. Setup a test recording of the last 12 minutes of a local news show on one of my servers and turned on the commercial removal.

As you can see the video codec is mpeg2video

hmmm, thanks for the info, that’s too bad, it would be a nice option to add

There is the experimental transcode option for a tuner device that will transcode after the recording is complete. But be aware that on lower powered servers you may find shows that seem to never finish recording because the server does not have the processing power to be transcoding one or more shows while still recording others.

Where is that option located? The HDHomeRun? or the Plex Server? I don’t see it anywhere

The Plex Server.

its possible I can’t see it, I currently have the Extend but have been thinking about the quarto.

I have looked under Live TV DVR and on the Device itself (in plex) but don’t see it

The Extend has its own transcoder settings that determine the h264 encoding that is done by the Extend before sending to plex. The Quattro will have Settings like shown in my image above.
