HDHR Connect and Live TV- Constantly buffering

Any tips here? Signed up for Plex Pass solely for adding the Live TV. It’s nearly unusable.

Gigabit LAN
100/12 internet connection
Newer iMac running no other tasks

All other Plex streaming has and continues to work flawlessly. Would love to have this work, as we travel and bought to be able to use Live TV remotely. Have all remote streaming limited to 4mb even though our other location is 100mb down as well.

Tips/tricks/thoughts? If I can’t get it figured out, will likely return the HD HomeRun and get a refund on the PlexPass. Thx all!!

You should check your CPU usage on your iMac while viewing live TV. It’s quite possible the iMac doesn’t have enough power to transcode live TV.

Bump. Issue is most prevalent when trying to stream remotely. That is limited at 4mbps and I have access to 12 up. Receiving end can dl at up to 100

Actually, the plex transcoder is showing CPU at 35% just in that snapshot. I’m not sure if that means is SHOULD be able to keep or if it’s actually have trouble doing so. Since you’re seeing buffering, I’m guessing the latter.

The crux of the issue is that Live TV is broadcast/encoded in an old format (mpeg2) which is not conducive to streaming, especially remotely. By taking a 1080i or 720p broadcast and limiting the stream to 4mb/s you’re asking Plex to transcode the stream on the fly and it seems like that might be why you’re seeing buffering…
