Headless Plexamp on RPi4 - Possible to use same Pi as a secondary Plex server?

Hi - possibly a dumb question, I dunno. Anyhow, I have a Pi4 successfully operating as a headless Plexamp endpoint. It works fantastically.

I am hoping also to set up a secondary Plex server on a Pi mainly to serve movies, TV shows and documentaries. I am aware a Pi cannot act as a server for Plexamp purposes, and I wouldn’t expect it to anyhow. I would use my much more powerful NUC for that. The Pi server is to keep switched on more, as it’s less demanding power-wise.

Is there any reason why I cannot or should not get my Plexamp endpoint Pi to do double duty by operating as said 2nd server? It would just be a case of sticking a USB drive on the end and installing then running the Plex server.

Possible? Or a terrible idea due to compatibility things? Or just not feasible?

Thanks for any insights people!

Possible? Yes, but definitely not recommended.

Plexamp Headless will always work best when not fighting other apps for limited resources. I wouldn’t be surprised if you experience audio stuttering or dropouts when Plex Media Server runs some of its more intensive tasks.

Thanks for this. This was what I thought, but thanks for confirming :+1: :grinning:
