+1 for supporting HEIC/HEIF photos
+1 Thanks
+1 for HEIC support in Plex
Share, reminisce, and give your moments the spotlight on any device you choose. With feature-rich options for organization and without the need to upload to a cloud, Plex is the ideal solution for anyone with loads of high-quality photos in any format.
Well, it seems that the functional description of the website is a bit different from reality. However, support for HEIC is not the only missing functionality for a photo-library.
I decided to give Plex a second chance after all. However, there seem to be many open construction sites in the area of photos that are simply not addressed or just ignored.
The request for EXIF/XMP metadata for photos is ignored since 2016. The request for HEIC support is ignored since 2017. Surely no one expects user-requests to be implemented within a few hours. But 4 years or 5 years should be enough to support standards.
Iām happy that Iām looking at software in detail before I buy the lifetime pass.
Is anyone on the Plex team reading this channel? Posted back in Oct and no reply. Been a plex pass owner for years now and I can see many other plex pass users posting here as well. Shame that appears to mean nothing to the Plex dev team.
Itās not that it āmeans nothingā. Itās just that itās not an easy feature to add.
Well ⦠how marvelous to have a response. Thanks, Elan. I guess much depends on your product pipeline and priority for this. Can you give any visibility as to how high this is on your list to do ⦠so might arrive say 1H22 for example, or is it in a long backlog so likely to be a long way away, in which case Iāll look to other options for HEIC conversion (Imazing batch, or something of that ilk) to jpg so I can see everything in Plex sooner rather than later.
Iām a brand new Plex user (I bought Plex Pass Lifetime over the holidays during your sale) and my sole purpose was to use it as a home ācloudā for photos on my devices. It seemed like a perfect solution.
I havenāt even gotten it fully set up yet, but Iām now learning that HEIC/HEIF is not supported. This means I need to give up the āLive Photosā feature entirely by converting to JPEG, or go with a different solution. As an iPhone user who has an entire photo library consisting mostly of Live Photos, I think Iāll have to go with another solutionā¦
My hope is that support is just around the corner, since Plex looked to be my solution to rid myself from one of the major cloud providersā¦
I buy Plex Pass, When I backup my photo and create The thumbnail , I found lost many photo, and I found the question, please add it .
1st off although I was shocked to see apple rid us of JPG format photos. HEIC is the new way and Video Codec as well I assume h265 wise.
Damn Just finished archive 3 years off my latest iphone to Plex Local structure to read this news.
Please for the love of god implement this support.
I figured maybe my windows store HEIC supported addon would have done this justice but no.
VOTED
Deal Plex Developers,
Please provide support for this!!! Like many users here, I purchased plex pass lifetime hoping you will support this soon. But I am very disappointed that you havenāt done this as yet. Please help!!!
I recently installed KODI and it did support HEIC photo and VIDEO.
DEVELOPERS look at there implementation and get it done.
Addon BUT IT WORKED.
WE NEED PLEX SUPPORT
Sorry if you believe the developers who are milking there positions for you, by not ruffling any feathers. one person could fix all the problems in a year and learn the programing language on the go. Iām a man of faith and patience so i understand being humble helps. But maybe try more of a Elon Musk hiring philosophy.
Bumping this thread. @elan, would you happen to have news on this? I came across this thread today while moving my 1tb library to Plex. This effort has been pointless since I am missing half of my imagesā¦
Iām sorry, I donāt have any other updates at this point.
Anyway the community can help?
I would really love this feature as well!
I have pretty much given up on Plex ever supporting this. Does anyone have any suggestions on what other alternative software can achieve this?
NextCloud can, even Live photos work ![]()
I give up to and my plex installation will be deleted because of no use. Very annoying. All new web shows and live tv features are fully useless for me.
Lifetime member for many years here, also requesting this feature.
Thank you.
