Hey all
As I’m looking to buy a nas, I really wonder, why is it that only the lesser specced nas, will let Plex talk to Intel Quch sync and do hw transcoding. It doesn’t make sense to me?
He is asking why only the lower spec’d NAS let him leverage Intel QSV.
@riisgaard80 Any Qnap NAS with an Intel chip w/HDMI output will let you leverage HW Transcoding (IF you have a Plex Pass subscription).
So whether you have an TS-251+, 872xt, etc., you can leverage HW transcoding from the Intel iGPU (w/PlexPass).
You can also install in some high-end models (x82, x77, etc.), Nvidia GPU’s and leverage HW Transcoding (again requires PlexPass).
I have an Nvidia 1060 card in my TS-877 and HW transcoding works (although that is a relatively recent development).
I agree, and was a mistake by the OP, and when said, the QNAP models that @MwC_Trexx mentioned, where all x86 platforms, so you Ninja’s are in sync here, regardless of the wording
And lastly @riisgaard80
Since your name sounds Danish, and the title of this thread starts with a danish word, then all I can say to you besides what the other Ninja’s said is: Davs
(Means hello)
Thank you all for answering. Sorry, maybe i asked the wrong question. When i say lower spec NAS i mean something like the qnap 453be and Synology ds918+. While they are not the least spec, they are not the highest either.
What i meant was, if you look at the ‘NAS compatibility list’, the 453be is able to decode 4K HDR using hardware, but the tvs 682, with an i3 is not???
And yes @dane22, im am danish ohh, didn’t see that, damn that mobile dictionary
The CPU doesn’t support it on the TVS 682 sadly, but @ChuckPa knows a lot more in details, since he’s the man behind the list
