When I use the Plex app on any iOS device, I get this error message when I try to play content. “Couldn’t retrieve the play queue for this item. Please try again.” Sometimes the item will play if you try 10-15 times. I do not have this issue with other players (like the Infuse app), but I prefer the Plex app. I also don’t have this issue on my NVIDIA Shield. Any idea on how to fix?
I recently started experiencing the same issue only on my Apple TV players. For me, it causes a complete interruption to the server for several minutes. Apple TV reboot seems to solve it most of the time but sometimes not. When I select reconnect to the plex server I see appear on the screen briefly for less than a second the connection wheel thing and then it goes away. It seems like something is disrupting the network connection or stream and then it has to time out completely for the server before re-establishing. I’m using a fiber connection with managed switches so the underlying infrastructure is solid and nothing has changed there. The streams are basic h264 720p ones so it shouldn’t be a decoder issue. I’ve seen this on something like 10-15 different individual files, over the course of multiple days, sometimes numerous times within the same file. Yet I use say a Roku player on the same network connecting to the same server and same file and it is flawless. Apple TV is latest 4K one (silver remote) running latest tvOS, so not sure if something broke in the media player or perhaps in apple’s underlying libraries. Regardless, it seems like some additional defensive programming around network connection interrupts, etc might be warranted assuming it isn’t somehow an isolated issue with only a few folks.
