Help installing Plex Connect

I've tried to install it in C:\Program Files\PlexConnect-master and also C:\Program Files (x86)\PlexConnect-master

Whenever I click on PlexConnect.py the python dos window opens for a flash and then disappears. I have windows 8 on my server.

I have installed Python 2.7.8

Anyone know why the screen flashes and then disappears? I'm guessing why this is why it isn't working when I direct my Apple TV to the DNS address 192.168.1.85

- read/post "PlexConnect.log".

- open a cmd window, "cd" to your folder, run PlexConnect.py from there... check the error msg.

Run it manually from a cmd window and you should see the error.

i  have the same problem guys.. can you explain how i run it manually:) cheers

- open cmd window

- type cd "c:\programs\plexconnect" - or wherever you stored it

- type PlexConnect.py

If you have python installed, it should get started. If not, then there is your first issue...

Thanks managed to get it just running using the cmd option.

Does the plex server have to be on all the time for other apple tv services to work e,g, youtube?

Good, you may want to install as a service so it runs automatically at boot time (see wiki for details).

The device running PlexConnect has to be on all the time as it needs to forward all of these requests, this is a limitation but not an issue for most users who run their PMS 24/7 anyway.

The only way around this is to either switch the ATV DNS back and forth or to do the DNS forwarding on your router (this is an advanced setup and requires a linux based router to do).

For what it's worth, I had this PlexAPI: We failed to reach a server. Reason: Unauthorized issue and I fixed it by changing the permissions on the folder that I'd extracted Plex Connect to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex Connect\

Right click the folder
Select the Security tab
Edit
Add
type "Everyone" (without the quotes) into the box and then click Check Names
OK
Tick the "Full Control" box
OK
OK
