Help installing Plexconnect on Jailbroken ATV 2 on 5.3

Does anyone have a video or a really easy guide to follow for installing plexconnect? I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I'm following this readme file posted on https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/tree/master/support/aTV_jailbreak , but everything seems so confusing. I am using mac terminal to send all the commands. However, when I try to install python I get an error.  Here is the instructions I followed so far:

Install Python on aTV
(current version: python_2.7.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb)
- download "https://yangapp.googlecode.com/files/python_2.7.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb"
- SFTP "python_2.7.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb" to your aTV
- SSH into aTV and execute...
"apt-get update"
"apt-get upgrade"
just to make sure you have the latest packages
"apt-get install cydia"
"apt-get install python"
this will pull and install python 2.5.1 with all dependencies
"dpkg -i python_2.7.3-3_iphoneos-arm.deb"
this will update python to 2.7.3

I downloaded the python_2.7.3.-3_iphoneos-arm.deb, but I have no idea where to put (I am also using cyberduck to see all the directories). My terminal is showing: Apple-TV: ~ root#

What directory is that? When I type 'dir' it returns 'Library Media'

Could someone please give me some step by steps on what I need to do? Sorry I am a noob at this, but I gotta start somewhere. Thank you.

.deb can be copied everywhere - it it only the package which then gets installed and may be deleted afterwards.

Just drop it in /Application to move on.

Python does NOT get installed on the ATV, it's installed on the computer

Well, no... Having a jailbroken aTV2 it might get installed there. But then, it's just another small computer, isn't it?

guess your right, I will shut up now :)

I made a tutorial based on baas original method with modified .deb’s here (post 231):

Thanks for all the replies guys. I will attempt to install it again. Hope all goes well.

Ok so I am following the instructions in post #231. I keep getting error when issuing the command: dpkg -i sqlite3-lib_3.5.9-2_iphoneos-arm.deb

This can be seen at http://imgur.com/39EDzY2. I do have all the files from the dropbox link you provided on the root of the apple tv. Please advise. Thank you.

Edit 1: So I managed to get the plexconnect to install thanks to your directions. For some reason I had to make a new folder which I named "Install" and copied all your dropbox files in there. Then it worked without a hitch. Now my only problem is getting the ATV to get recognize my plex server on my PC. It does not detect anything on the network. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Wahlman.

P.S. I used this link to generate certificates (https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Mac-Certificates). It didn't say anything about placing the file "trailer.key" anywhere (Perhaps it needs to be put somewhere on the atv? It only said to place trailer.pem and trailer.cer into /assets/certificates. Both plexconnect.py and plex version 2.2.3 is running on my PC.

I personally would restore to a fresh iOS 5.3. The deb I created generates certs automatically.

Is there some things I can check before I fresh restore to iso 5.3? For example when I run PlexConnect.py on my computer, it does not show my plex media server when it runs through all the necessary processes. See photo below.

Also when I manually change the DNS on the ATV to my PMS it does nothing. I have to set it back to automatically in order to get internet connection. I've have exhausted all things to try using google. Maybe there is something that I didn't try that maybe you can suggest. Thanks.

Have you ever had a plexConnect host working at all on any device to serve a aTV? Your questions don’t really provide enough information for us to debug your issue(s). What necessary processes are you referring to? A manual DNS change is only required using plexconnect on a non aTV host (e.g. Mac). Like I said prior I would do a ios 5.3 restore if you wish to run plexconnect directly on your atv2. Once you get that working you can work on a different plexconnect host if you wish. If pms works on non aTV devices (e.g. Non atv ios device) then it’s likely ok, If not then you have multiple issues with your network/pms host, etc. Like I said prior the clearer and more detailed you can be the better everyone can help you. Debugging two different plexconnect hosts is hard to debug, concentrate on only one at a time.

Ok. Just to be clear, I have never gotten it to work on my ATV 2. The first time I have ever gotten plexconnect on it was by using your instructions. I can confirm that my iphone 4 does pickup my PMS and it plays fine. I am just trying to figure out how I can get my ATV 2 to detect my PMS. Thanks.

Can you confirm your pms has a properly forwarded port as well as your router? Have you signed into myplex via plexconnect on your appletv? When you open the trailers app what happens on the appletv? Where are you “stuck”? The more info you can provide helps a lot to get it up and running for you. Most users that have issues just restore then copy and paste my instructions and it just works unless there is a different issue preventing it from working. Minimum you should see a plexconnect screen when you choose the trailers app even if you have pms issues. I would concentrate on getting there first.

On the ATV 2 there is a plexconnect app. I click on that and am able to sign into myplex with no problems. I am not sure how to set up my pms to have a properly forwarded port. The same goes for my router. Are there instructions on how to do that? Also the only problem I seem to be having is that in the plexconnect app, it detects no servers.

Ok that’s good news. You just need to configure Pms and your router. On your router forward port 32400 and point it at your Pms IP address. Then on Pms settings (connect tab) click retry on the port 32400, it should have a green checkmark. It’s not to hard to do maybe this will help with the router:
