[Help Needed] CloudSync and Amazon Drive

Hi All

I got an amazon cloud drive subscription because i want to sync some Plex files (not all my library) and free my devices disk space. The Plan says “unlimited everything” but after upload some episodes of a tv show i had two surprises:

  1. When i try to play (in most of the devices) i got an error message “unable to play”. If i go to amazon site i got “can´t play files over 20 min”

  2. If i connect thru Plex web interface i can play the files.

Is there a way to fix it? Dropbox maybe?

Thanks!
Braz.

I’ve never really tried playing Plex’s synced items except through Plex. The files are on the cloud drive but have totally arbitrary filenames, so its pretty tough to pick anything other than by play and pray.

What bitrate did you set when uploading to CloudSync? And on the clients your trying to play on did you set the bitrate on the client to at least the same bitrate?

Thanks for your message,

I Choose the plex preset “mobile” (3Mbits 720p) that is the same as my plex server settings for playback.

Thx,
Braz.

Hi @brucethevideobug

I will try to explain better:

  1. I use the option Sync to convert the video and upload to the amazon cloud drive. This operation works fine!
  2. When i log in to Plex account and play any file (using Plex Web) this operation also works fine!
  3. If i try to play any of those files using the Plex app (for mobile or tablets) I am NOT ABLE to play it.
  4. If i log in to the amazon cloud drive site I am NOT ABLE to play it. I have a message: “can´t play files over 20 min”.

So the point is: How can i avoid this problem?

Thank you for your help

Each device, plex/web or mobile device, have their own settings for streaming. Make sure the mobile devices streaming quality is set to Direct Play the CloudSync content

I get it a little better now. You are playing the files through Plex, but find that they won’t play. I’ve found that often a cloud synced file will play when the mobile device is on wifi, but not if it is on 3 g through Verizon. I’ve heard an explanation, but didn’t quite get it. Find wifi when you can and you may be able to play.

I always try to play it on wired or wi-fi… It does not work at all…

It appears you didn’t get a better answer.

I think you’ll find control related to direct play under the heading media in the mobile app, but the specific vary with the app and device I think. This an elaboration to hhighway’s response:

“Each device, plex/web or mobile device, have their own settings for streaming. Make sure the mobile devices streaming quality is set to Direct Play the CloudSync content.”

As others have said, make sure your devices are set to direct play, as the cloud cannot transcode files on its own.
