I have the plexpass, but i am unable to connect to any of the newer movies.
What am i doing wrong?

Is this a video on your own or a shared Plex Media Server?
A Plex Pass won’t give you access to any media on its own.

Im not sure, cause my daughters are able to watch new streaming content for free, whereas when i signed up, i have to rent/buy the content. When I asked my oldest daughter about it, she said she used a friends server…?? so im not sure what im doing wrong?
You can watch some free online media sources of Plex (e.g. their video-on-demand or live-tv streaming services). While they’re free, there’ll be ads.
That’s independent of having a Plex Pass.
The other use case of Plex is to self-host your media for streaming on your devices. You can do that with your own digital content or with digital copies/backups of your DVDs/Blu-Rays.
Plex supports sharing media from your own server with a limited number of friends and family – so it appears your daughter has a friend with a Plex Media Server who’s sharing their libraries with them.
That on its own is independent of having a Plex Pass. Plex Pass is mostly about premium features linked to your own server or playback (e.g. free use of the mobile apps, option to download media from your own server to watch while on the road, skipping intros/ads/credits of self-hosted media…).
