Help w/Install

Hi,

I just bought an Apple TV 3 and I've done my best to follow the install guide but to no avail. Can someone help me? I'm not that computer savvy but have been trying for hours to figure this out (I have consulted the forums already).

Thanks,

Joel

Model: Apple TV 3; Firmware Version: 5.3 (6105)

DNS Server: 209.18.47.61

Device/OS for PlexConnect: iMac (mid 2011); 10.8.4

Local IP Address: 192.168.0.2

Device for Plex Media Server: iMac (mid 2011); 10.8.4

Plex Media Server: 0.9.7.28.33-f80a4a2

Local IP Address for Device PMS Installed On: 192.168.0.2

Plex Connect: PlexConnect-0.1-iOS-pre5.1

I do not know how to check the content of my Settings.cfg file

The DNS on your Apple TV should be the same as the ip of your host machine.

Is that the Public IP Address or the Local IP Address?

Local.

Ok, so I should enter 192.168.0.2 as the Local Address.

As for where to put the PlexConnect zip, I put in my Library (/Users/jochapma/Library) and then unzipped it and ran the terminal commands. Did I do anything wrong there?

This is what I did for mine. I extracted the files to my desktop and ran it from there. The DNS on your Apple TV should be 192.168.0.2 and you should be able to connect.

Just as a matter of principle I would avoid putting random files into any Library Folder on your Apple computer.

>> random files???

He is talking about PlexConnect...

:-D

Hey, I got it to work! Thanks! One question: do I have to keep my terminal running the whole time?

Hi,

I'm also having major issues getting plexconnect to work - I'm sure it's something very simple I've overlooked, but any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated. Here's the required info:

  • Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software):

    • ATV3 / 5.3 (6105)

  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS):

    • 192.168.2.100

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on:

    • HP Proliant N40L / Windows Server 2012

  • The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on:

    • 192.168.2.100

  • The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:

    • HP Proliant N40L / Windows Server 2012 (as above)

  • The Plex media server (PMS) version number you are running (**do not put 'latest'**):

    • 0.9.7.22-4b5280f

  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:

    • 192.168.2.100

  • The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any testing branch e.g. the Elan/PlexInc one.

    • downloaded July 4th 2013 approx 20:00Z CEST

  • The content of your 'Settings.cfg' file (if you do not have this file you are running an old version, please update)

    • [PlexConnect]
      port_pms = 32400
      enable_plexgdm = True
      ip_dnsmaster = 176.67.84.19
      ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
      loglevel = Normal
      enable_dnsserver = True
      ip_pms = 192.168.178.10
      port_webserver = 80

  • Logfile link: http://pastebin.com/9kYChBaW

  • I have changed the port that my IIS runs on to deconflict that

  • Issue is that the DNS does not seem to be passing through traffic - once ATV was restarted I get just the 2 icons as if it were not connected to the internet - prior to that, no content was available after plexconnect install on any native app (ie movies / tv shows) or netflix

I'm completely stumped as have tried everything I can think of!

Thanks

try changing ip_pms to the computer's ip.

if doesn't work switch back to what it was before

thanks tomer1749, tried that, made no difference though - any other suggestions?

what is your computer current dns ?

change dnsmaster to your computer current dns.

same here-if it doesn't work, switch it to what it was.

have tried with my ISP's DNS, google DNS and my VPN SmartDNS (as shown) - none work

According to the log your PlexConnect does NOT get any request from aTV. No DNS, no HTTP.

Firewall? Ports blocked?

i have opened the ports on my router for DNS and Web traffic - firewall is allowing python.exe access

>> allowing python.exe access

allowing python tho access the outside world? or allow the outside world (here: aTV) to access python?
Don't know if there is a difference, is there?

Did you do any changes to the source code?

i have an incoming rule on my firewall to allow traffic from the ATV IP address and an external one to allow python.exe to access the outside world

Do you have another computer in the network? What happens if you browse from there to 192.168.2.100:80?

You should get a PlexConnect error response 403.

I have no idea, how to check the DNS port, though...

won't allow any connection to that IP from another node on my network
