Help Wanted: Port forwarding not working/access plex without router

Hi everyone, I’m new to the Plex family and I’m really loving the concept behind it. I’m having some trouble getting set up though. There are two ways that I’m trying to use Plex currently. I have a Linux Mint box that I’ve installed the Plex Media Server on and am attempting to port forward through my router. When I first start Plex, and enable remote access, it turns green saying that it is accessible to the outside world. I go in and try to play a movie from another computer and it won’t play. I go back to the server and it says it is no longer able to be accessible from the outside world. I’m not sure what is happening with there. I’m happy to provide information necessary.

It would be useful to mention that I’m living on a university campus and using their internet with my router. I’ve suspected that my ports might be getting blocked, but that’s another avenue.

On another note, I’ve tried to run it from a wired connection from a Windows machine. This connection is not connected to a router, just into the wall accessing the university internet. Is there a way to access this computer outside of that network? I’m not familiar enough with networking to know which questions to ask. Thanks in advance!

Hi

I have just started using the plex platform as well, windows seems to work well however the Linux app does not seem to be updated, i have a popcorn hour V10 (Linux based) and every time i attempt to connect the popcorn hour to the plex server it does not connect and prompts me withh an error.

please could a developer that is currently working on the linux plex platform look into this as i would love to use this box i just bought for plex. i would hate to have a moderately priced paperweight.

Thanks

The biggest metric which will drive adding support is how many want it.
