What version of PMS is installed on your system?
Plex had some major issues when TheTVDb.com recently updated their APIs. The latest versions however should be ok. Sometimes it can still get stuck but that should get sorted when you update the metadata after completing the scan (only happened once for me so far).
Shows sometimes air “specials” or other content that isn’t part of the standard season. “Specials” episodes are always part of season zero (i.e. season number “00”) and should be placed inside a folder named either Season 00 or Specials .
Where you specify the correct episode numbers. If you’re unsure whether a particular episode is a Special or not, check the episode on TheTVDB and name it as you see it there.
If an “episode” you have doesn’t appear in TheTVDB (e.g. DVD Specials or goof reel), place this content in the Season 00 or Specials folder named using s00eYY using a false “YY” number (e.g.: Heroes s00e99). The show will be available to play in a Plex App but won’t have any special metadata gathered, such as a summary.
@SE56 yeah, I have tried the file is in Specials and Season 00 directories and I have tried multiple namings to try and trigger the correct match, without success.
I am correct in believing that plex should be able to match the name from TVDB " The Great Festive Bake Off 2020" right?
sorry, i may have erroneously used the word ‘match’. Indeed, the filename matches to S00E73 but then in plex it is just Episode 73 of Specials with no way of identifying what that actually is.
To be clear, Plex should match episode 73 from the filename and give the title of the episode as “The Great Festive Bake Off 2020” as per TVDB. Right?
Yes, assuming the file is named/pathed as I suggested above, it should match. I just tested here. This (note that my TV Shows library points to “TV” in the path in the screenshot):
