Help with enabling regular remote access

Yes anything between 100.64.0.0 and 100.127.255.255 falls in that range.

You are in a CGnat situation and will need to contact your ISP and ask for a “static publicly routeable private address”

They usually charge a nominal monthly fee for this.

Thank you so so so much! I will call them and see where it goes!

Okay so I called my ISP and they said they don’t assign static IP addresses to residential customers, just business. So he set me up what he called a “sticky ip” and then said I was in a “natted” set up so he made my IP address public. Well needless to say it is now working like a charm!

Thank you guys for the help!

That just means the public IP address lease received from your ISP’s DHCP server is assigned to the MAC address of the WAN interface of your Google router. The ISP’s DHCP server will continue to renew the lease 1/2 through the lease duration. It can change due to any of the following reasons listed below:

  1. The WAN IP address could change if your ISP performs a major maintenance or suffers an outage. If the downtime is long enough, the DHCP lease could expire.
  2. The IP address could change if your router is upgraded/switched to another brand/model.
  3. Finally if you unplug your router for a long enough duration, intentionally or unintentionally, the DHCP lease on the public IP address could also expire

In all situations, you would just get a different public IP address and you would just need to bounce PMS’s Remote Access to publish your new public IP address with plex.tv

Alright that is good to know, thank you!

That reminds me of another question. If I’m using my VPN and forget to turn it off after I leave, will this affect my streaming from my PMS server?

Yes as the the VPN’s interface gateway will become the default gateway for 0/0 aka all non local subnets.

VPNs tend to not allow any port forwarding.
