HEVC DoVi support missing from Samsung TV plex app

Server Version#: 1.28.1.6092
Player Version#:5.44.5, Platform Version 5

Changelog here states it’s fixed for xbox in the Samsung TV topic.

When trying to play some Dolby Vision format files on any tagged platform, an error is displayed stating “File is unplayable. Color space is not supported”

Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision.

Plex Media Server does not support transcoding Dolby Vision.

Some Dolby Vision videos have a HDR10 compatibility layer (ex: rip from Blu-ray disc). Plex should play the HDR10 layer of the file.

Some Dolby Vision media, such as DV profile 5, used by the streaming services, does not contain a HDR10 compatibility layer. When playing such media using the Plex Samsung app, you will receive the “color space not supported” message (since the TV does not support the format and Plex cannot transcode it).

Interesting… Thanks for the information and the link.

This was my mistake, this is an XBox release note, and should not have been included in the Samsung changelog.

No worries.

Seems there is a way to maybe pipe some stuff together for an on-the-fly (maybe?) transcode from DoVi… ffmpeg did add support for Dolby Vision.

and some MIT licensed code:

so, please and thank you.

What say you @sLumpy @FordGuy61 ?

Not a technical issue.

Plex does not have a Dolby Vision license.

Is that expected to change?

Also, since talking licenses… Where are the Plex Commercial Skipper patches?
