Expected behavior with DVp5 video.

Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision. Your laptop may not support it either.

Plex cannot transcode Dolby Vision video. It has no license from Dolby to do so.

Unlike DVp7 & p8, DVp5 video has no HDR10 compatibility layer.

Therefore, if Plex needs to transcode DVp5 video, playback fails and Plex displays a “Color space not supported” message.

Other clients may display different behavior.

For example, using my Windows 10 desktop which does not support Dolby Vision video:

  • Plex Web displays “color space not supported” when attempting to play DVp5 video.
  • Plex Desktop plays the video, but the colors are wrong (everything is pink and green), since Plex cannot tone map DV video (PMS must transcode to tone map).

With DVp7 and p8, Plex will try to direct play the Dolby Vision video. If it cannot, it will try to direct play the HDR10 version. If that fails, it will try to transcode the HDR10 video.
