Plex beta channel is showing 9057 does this include HEVC or should I stick with 9043 that I just downloaded 10 minutes ago?

beta does not include hevc

Thanks! The versioning definitely makes that confusing.

are those logs enough or do you really want the full package ?

Well the little difference can always happen. Differenet codec.

But if I understand you correctly you are wondering why the files with H264 and H265 are equally in size, when choosing the same Bitrate Limit? Well because you choose the same bitrate limit.

Stick with 9043 for now

Hi Chris,

I would also like to see the higher bitrate options maintained with HEVC, maybe even adding a couple on the high end, capping in the 40-50 Mbps range. I think adding these, in addition to the suggestions others have given on the lower bitrate options, will give all users plenty of choices for their streaming use cases. I appreciate all of the work you are doing here!

unfortunately changing which bitrates are offered is something we will have to tackle in the future once the client devs are more free.

I have updated the download links. The new build includes:

  • Colorspace fixes on mac and potentially others
  • Fixed the dovi playback issue on android (FYI, we do not have the license to transcode dovi so it is stripped from all transcodes)
  • Added settings for DVR transcodes to allow for more control over size/quality

This is the last of the issues I have been tracking, tomorrow I will re-read the thread to catch any that I missed.

Hi @chris_decker08,

I think there may be a regression in this release. The crashing is back for my iPhone 13 Pro device using the “Old Player” when trying to transcode UHD HDR and HDR/DOVI content. Experimental player works normal. I’ll have time later to test an Apple TV HD and 4K and a Fire TV.

Colorshift issue looks to be corrected for the SDR content.

Logs attached.

What is the behaviour for DoVi profile 5 content?

same behavior as exists today when transcoding it to h.264

@dklein I see the regression and will fix tomorrow.

Thanks Chris!

I can confirm FireTV playback works as expected and color shift issue has been resolved there as well.

sorry forgot to add that the 265 was quite noticeably worse quality

@ReaperSPTN2109 can you attach a set of logs which include both types of transcode?

@chris_decker08

Just to confirm with the current release, is the raster of the transcode supposed to be changing when selecting a lower bitrate, or should that be staying consistent to the source and only the bitrate should be changing?

Ie if a 1080p file is transcoded to “4mbps @ 720p”, should it actually be changing down to 1280x720? This is the current functionality as I am seeing it, but I remember above there was some discussion that this may be incorrect behavior.

Does this build include the things added to latest plex pass like HW transcode for DVR?

I’m definitely able to stream 6 ~2Mbps direct plays on my Comcast cable internet – up to 8-9 sometimes with mixed content.

In the past year or two, PMS or the clients have improved several-fold regarding streaming. I’m very impressed with the updates that have been achieved by Plex on this front.
