HEVC is Transcoded Instead of Direct Play

I just updated to a new server that’s running Windows 11 Pro with an NVIDIA RTX 3050 and an Intel i5-14600KF. It replaced my old i7 4770K with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and Windows 10 Pro.

The old server was playing all my HEVC content via Direct Play to my Samsung TV with no issues. After setting up my new server today, the same content is getting transcoded and downgraded, i.e., HEVC 1080p down to AVC 480p.

I’m not sure what to do as I’ve checked all the settings I can think of on both the server and the client on the TV but I can’t get this resolved. I’d appreciate any suggestions. I did try enabling/disabling the use hw acceleration settings as well as the hdr tonemapping to no avail. For now I’m only playing HEVC HD content and no 4K as I haven’t tried any of those shows yet.

I’m not sure what exactly happened but it’s working now. All I did was decide to stop and restart Plex, then I used the Cast to play a title from the server and it played with Direct Play. After that, using the TV Plex client player the titles are now playing fine with Direct Play. Happy again :slight_smile:
