I’m having issues with 10-Bit HEVC hardware transcoding on an Intel Skylake Gen 6 CPU with Intel 520 Graphics.
Documentation from wikiChip suggests that this CPU does support 10-Bit hardware decoding.
The answers I’ve received on this forum are that it is not supported, but the fact is, it does work, just not all the time.
I have somewhat confirmed this with PLEX as it manages to hardware transcode some of them, so it stands to reason that if it does some, it should do all.
I’m only working with 1080p files and I’ve picked up there generally seems to be an issue with files that are 1920x800. Audio codecs don’t seem to have any impact.
My problem now is that I want to have the hardware transcode feature on so PLEX can use hardware transcoding when possible, but because of the inconsistency in the handling of 10-Bit HEVC files, I’m forced to keep it off to avoid PLEX from crashing on some titles.
DEVS, please can you either fix 10-Bit hardware transcoding on this CPU or fix the way PLEX determines whether or not to try use hardware transcoding so I can leave the feature enabled and have it work when it can and revert to software when it can’t.
1st Prize would be to get the transcoding working correctly as it’s clearly capable of doing so.
