Hibernation and log

Server Version#:1.19.1.2701
Stoping PMS is not a good solution for me.
How can i manual disable the log or change log directory with synology ssh?
What is the config file for this?

This is realy bullshit. Why has a NAS hybernation and only Plex prevent this to do!! Some time hypernation has working with Plex but Plex want write all the Time Log Files. I dont no why but this is only ridicule. Plex put unneccesaire Features inside the Server but simply things works never ore dont want fixit. This is a blame

Im looking at changing to Emby because of this hibernation problem. At the moment Im giving it a try, and if it works well I wont renew Plex Pass. Plex is ok, but this hibernation problem is stupid.

I don’t understand why don’t develop this feature. An average person uses Plex 1-2 times a week. This is an unnecessary waste of energy.

Im not sure either. I’ve been trying emby which doesn’t do this. One thing I found so far that I liked is it stores the metadata in NFO files which plex doesn’t.

Why has a NAS hybernation and only Plex prevent this to do!!

Are you kidding ? Take a look at the list on Synology on everything that will prevent hybernation.

Summarized : A LOT !!

When I stop the Plex Server hybernation is working without any Problem. It is my desission what I want to load on my Nas. I can’t understand somthing like that.

In times of climate debate, electricity consumption should not be taken lightly. We are not talking about 10 plex servers worldwide.
Why does it write logfiles in the time when I don’t use the plex at all!

If your NAS goes into hybernation when not running Plex then I think you indeed are not really using a NAS with many features or packages and then probably you are not running anything on it requiring it to be there all time.

Then perhaps you should make a power-schedule to powerup/powerdown the NAS only when you intent to use it ? Or wake it up with WOL-packet when you are about to use it.

As long as the Plex processes are running chances are they will have to write some occasional logfiles etc so yes, its obviously not possible to hybernate then.

They seem to want to justify why hibernation shouldnt be used, rather than fix the problem. Its another reason Im looking at changing from Plex. The amount of electricity saved isnt a small amount especially with 9 hard drives in the nas, and electricity prices arent always as cheap as in the USA.

So you have a NAS with 9 drives and this thing is not running 24/7 ? Then what is the purpose ? Only contains your media-library ?
Then by all means, just power it down and wake it up with WOL when you need it ?

I don’t know why people still needs to make unnecessary comments and not answer straight questions. Fact is, not everyone use NAS the same way. It’s more philosophic. Some want to save energy, others wants silence or have million of reasons why they want their device to hibernate. I, for example, use it as a backup for data such photos, videos, etc. This is mirrored in RAID 1 to lower the risk of loosing data if anything happens to one of the drive. And then I use it for media streaming to my Shield via plex. That means, most of the time I don’t need access my NAS and because I hate noise it’s great if NAS is silent - e.g. if I’m working or not at home. I’ve replaced fan which is inaudible but you can’t achieve that without disk spinning 24/7. Now the only application preventing disks to hibernate is plex on my NAS and I ask why ? Writing logs ? Come on, let users decide if they want to write anything to HDD if plex is not accessed. What do you need to write ? Also argument plex is communicating with some services - you don’t need write anything for this as the app is loaded in memory. With all logs disabled in setting, plex still writes something in irregular intervals which makes me nervous. This sounds fishy because as mentioned already Emby does not do it. Jellyfin does not do it. Why plex?

I bought one month subscription to try it and I like it but this driving me nuts and I’m debating to switch to other media server because of this. Developers should really take this seriously. I believe it’s not that big problem to stop logging - at least more experienced users should have possibility to completely control it.

@KE1967, did you try Jellyfin ? Looks better to me than Emby which pricing is just ridiculous. A ugly copy of Plex where you have to pay even for TV app. Also, do you know what is the latest version of PMS where hibernation worked? I saw there was some file in plex folder which had to be modified but then plex didn’t wake up NAS from hibernation. I don’t need the latest fancy features so probably I could use the old version happily…

I tried Emby, and actually found it to be better nowdays than Plex, as well as I can hibernate the NAS, so I will switch to it at a later date. Plus it writes the metadata to NFO files, so you dont lose everything later like with plex if you change.
