Then I think you need to monitor what the server is doing during the maintenance window.
However, doing that is not so easy on the Shield, since there is no easy access to the hidden server settings.
Make sure to enable the ‘debug’ logs
(but keep the ‘verbose’ logs disabled!) under Settings - Server - General - ‘Show Advanced’
If you can catch the server while it’s causing those bandwidth spikes, grab the log files
under Settings - Manage - Troubleshooting
then post them here or send them to me per PM.
I still need to check the logging/debug settings to pull a proper log, but I wanted to add an update/note. I added a second plex server to the network, nothing to do with this issue, I just decided that I wanted to have two plex servers on my network. I changed the scheduled tasks time on the second plex server, I don’t want both plex servers hitting the same NAS at the same time. Now both plex servers are using high bandwidth during their scheduled tasks window…the full duration. I bring this up because it seems that the same thing is causing the high bandwidth usage. I don’t think I’ll need to log on both servers, just one of the two.
This also tells me that this is a plex default setting that’s causing. That or I made the same exact setting change on both plex servers. Very possible, I suppose.
@td.plex. I had the same issue. After quite a bit of googling, turn off this setting solved my excessive bandwidth usage between plex server and NAS during scheduled tasks period.
Settings -> Scheduled Tasks -> " Perform extensive media analysis during maintenance". I also turned off “Generate video preview thumbnails” under library previously.
