Home Movies - Default to Folder View?

Hi,

Is it possible to make the default view, for a section defined as Home Movies in PMS, as folder view?

My home movie library is best organized by me and not PMS. So when I go to that library I want to view it in folder view. At the moment, I have to go to more, by folder view.

Anyways, just a suggestion. Hopefully someone has some xml that I can alter.

Thanks.

The latest commit has a new template for home movies (before it used the same as movies), take it for a spin and provide some feedback

It works very well. Thank you. The only suggestion, and it's minor, would be to change the current navigation default to By Folder. I have made that change locally.

Hi I don’t mind having the list view but I don’t like the removal of the selection by genre etc at top level, and it seems the “more” button on preplay is gone? I add metadata to my files when possible, even for home video, and being able to filter and browse home videos like movies using collections, actor, genre etc but still have them separate was nice…unless i am missing something?

At the moment the Home Video view is just an initial release and I'm looking for feedback as to exactly what sections people would like to see in the view. Which sections do you need and I'll see what can be done.

Is it possible to change the default folder icon? Ideally it would be awesome if I could place a .png or .jpg in the folder that has the content and that image would be used for the folder icon.

Love it. Would it be possible to have a “detailed list” view as for Movie section… ? (I don’t like much the list only view, with the duration above the title)

Would be great !

For me the existing movie view with List/Detailed List is pretty close to what I would want.  I like having the shelves for recently added and released, then along the top shelf having unwatched, collections, genre.  I can see the point about folder view, given I have several hundred if not more than 1000 various camcorder/iphone clips-- so moving the By folder filter from the  "more" on the top shelf to its own selection is fewer clicks and cleaner. But I would want collections and genre back on the top level.  These were all optional anyway in the settings for the movie view, so why not leave it that way for home video?  In the preplay I liked having the "more" selection to bring up the actor/genre.  I prefer to embed metadata in the actual file--I've lost info too many times migrating between various software or databases to new computer.  In iTunes for home video I use smart playlists a lot, as they are powerful ways of organizing by any keyword or description, "Christmas", "Sports" "Ballet" etc. and they are pretty accessible on the Apple TV ( why cant they implement search for video though??)  and I also use genre for things like "slideshows", "trailers" etc.  In plex Collections and Genre approximate that experience for me so I would like to keep them for all video types....and thanks for the great software btw.

Ok the detailed list view is now available, I'll start adding the extra sections (Genre, Actor etc) in the next couple of days.

The Collection and Genres sections have now been added and can be turned on/off in the settings menu.

The By folder option is a very nice/welcome addition

Many Thanks Rob.

Guess I missed the first part of this.  I see the Home Movie option in the settings and it sounds like something I would use, maybe instead of the actual movie section.  Had started a thread a while back wanting the By Folder option to be the default view and it looks like this might be the solution.  It wouldn't be as simple as renaming in PMS the movies library to Home Movies, would it? Or do I have to create in PMS a brand new library called Home Movies?

You have to create a “home movie” library in PMS. It is a type of library along with Movies and TV Shows. You can then name it whatever you want.

You will have a problem with automatic metadata though if you use a Home Movie library for regular movies, won’t you?

You can still use the normal movie scanner metadata thing, even with a home movies section.

OK, I have never tried. Thought it would be turned off in order to avoid inaccurate metadata for Home Videos that do not follow proper naming conventions of Movies. Good to know.

How did you make that change locally, please??

Edit "assets/templates/HomeVideoSectionTopLevel.xml" and change line 9 from <navigation currentIndex="1"> to <navigation currentIndex="3">.

Please report back if that works. I noticed the latest version of HomeVideoSectionTopLevel.xml has changed from the one I have.

After a brief look at the xml file for homemoviesbyfolder I'm wondering if the By Folder menu option could be added to the main Movies top menu line?  I'm not a coder but it seems most (if not all) of the work has been done in creating the byfolder selection for homemovies and should be portable to the movies section.  If possible could somebody consider making this an added option in the next update?

mschlotz, By Folder for the “Real” movie section is on my to do list, it needs updating to bring it in line with the Home Movie version, hang tight I will get to it

Excellent!  I'll hang in... thanks!
