So a very large portion of them are in the /Movies folder BUT the rest are in one level lower sub folders. PMS in "folder view" shows the folders followed by all the rest of the titles. If I click on one of the folders I'm presented what is in that folder.
In Plexconnect: folder view only shows my sub folders and NONE of the movies in the main folder.
Can Plexconnect be made to duplicate the same presentation as PMS for the folder view?
PMS folder view is likely seen by going into media manager, clicking on a section item, then in the view options bar the right most icon (on OS X at least) is a folder like icon, which lists the items by folder
I'm guessing the "by folder" option is being used in PlexConnect, and that could explain why it is not displaying a file in the "by folder" listing, as it is meant to only display folders and not files (if that makes sense)
The By Folder view in PlexConnect is limited simply because of the type of xml interface we used on the ATV (left hand list / right hand view pane). It was never looked at any further simply because (in my eye at least) there is no need for it, Plex has a very robust library that sorts all your media into the correct categories and presents a wealth of viewing options, eg Genre, On deck, Actor and so on. Why do you need to view by folder, just set up a proper library and let Plex do all the work.

If we had the ability to limit but show just the "views" desired it might be worth the effort to use collections and manually go through more than 500 movies. Example: as it is, the genre listing is too vast, if it could be pared down by selecting in settings which to show it might be usable. The folder concept is simple and works very well for pulling a number of "like films" together in one spot. That's not to say its the best and it really serves a purpose if you have say 10 or so folders. This way some obvious culling can occur (Chick Flix's, Children's, etc...) leaving the rest to stay in the top level.
My purpose for asking is that this function already exists in PMS media manager, it works perfectly and am hoping that it can be brought straight over into Plexconnect.
BTW: actor searching is still a hit or miss. Tried it for Sean Connery and most displayed were correct BUT it also showed War Wagon (a John Wayne movie)
The only issue I've seen so far is that pressing play button when a sub-folder item (the folder icon in the right hand side of the screen) you get a "trailers is unavailable" message. To be honest, not a biggie, as that isn't how you'd select a folder, you'd use the select option.
selecting the folder icon item denoting a sub-folder and then pressing play does not drill-down into that folder, rather it displays the normal "trailers unavailable" message. Pressing select does drill-down correctly.
Ok Ok..... You win :) Grab the latest version from github and give it a test.
I've made it mirror the way the web interface work as best I can, let me know if there's any changes you want and I'll see what I can do.
Appreciate the work there and thanks. Just grabbed the latest and gave it a try. Guess I have not done a good job explaining what I was after. When I'm referring to how it works on the PMS media manager I'm expecting all movies and folders to show on the screen with the folders first followed by the movies. So a folder icon if clicked would bring up the thumbnails of all the movies within it, and hitting the menu button would take you back up one level that shows again the folder thumbs followed by all the movie thumbs. This does bring me to think of a more easy approach. Bring the By Folder selection (under more...) up to the same level as On Deck, Unwatched, etc... If you click on By Folder what gets presented is the entire movie selection with the folder thumbs followed by movies at the same level as the folders. Example attached:
But... there is the issue that aTV only displays the thumbnails, not the title -> see photo section (directories were shown in LIST, whereas the photos are collected into a "virtual" directory and - if selected - shown in photo browser).
Roidy, does this work different with movies? Would you add such a "virtual directory" approach to the movies/shows as well?
Maybe I am totally off and everything is different...

The reason the folders in the photo view had no titles is because the photo section uses the interface, movies doesn't use the interface so titles can be shown no problem.
Hey, Hey, this is looking Very Good! One last part, the "By Folder" option is at the bottom of the "more..." option and is a pain to get to. The best solution in order of preference would be:
1. "By Folder" moved up to the same level as "On Deck" etc.. and made to be the default selection (the highlighted one vs On Deck)?
2. If not, can it be placed at the top of the list of "more..." ie above Unwatched
Really appreciate your efforts to date. This thing is continually getting better thanks to your great work! :D
