Home screen scrolling is not smooth on 1.21.1, but is better on 1.17.0

Server Version#: 1.27.2.5929
Player Version#: 1.21.1

When moving from one film/TV programme to another (particularly right), the animation that scrolls the line of tiles is no longer smooth on 1.21.1. It’s significantly better on 1.17.0. This is regardless of resolution for the screen or graphics card. I have tried this on a Radeon 6400 in my HTPC and on my NVidia 3080Ti. I have a slow motion video as that I can post if you can suggest a host.

Thanks.

Agreed.

Motion is actually better with Reduce motion option enabled.

New version just released has resolved this for me.

That’s good to hear, thanks for checking.

Definitely not fixed in 1.22 for me. On my RX6400 (in my LP HTPC) it’s now really slow navigating to different tiles on the menu. On my desktop with a 3080ti, it’s still not smooth.

I really don’t understand how this was perfectly fast in 1.17 and they’ve broken it in recent releases.

Spoke too soon

Also broken for me. I even reinstalled windows as it was on my to-do list anyway, and this did not fix it either. I´m having this issue since Version 1.2x.x. Version 1.19.1 was the last one for me with perfectly smooth scrolling.

I also noticed a very noticeable delay in loading poster artworks, this was also way faster in v. 1.19.1.

Hope the issue gets resolved for both of you.

Well, I have looked a bit more in detail at this issue. First of all, the last version that is smooth on my end is PlexHTPC-1.20.2.3110-6f190192-x86_64.

I did some testing. I extracted the installer for PlexHTPC-1.20.2.3110-6f190192-x86_64, PlexHTPC-1.21.2.3158-331d3308-x86_64 and PlexHTPC-1.22.1.3169-33807d7b-x86_64 into their folders and tried running them as a portable version - which worked fine.

Result:
V.1.20.2: UI is buttery smooth
V.1.21.2: UI is stuttery on both my machines (RTX2070Super, RTX3050)
V.1.22.1: UI is stuttery on both my machines (RTX2070Super, RTX3050)

On the RTX 3050 machine, it is very noticeable, whereas on the RTX 2070 Super machine it is very minor but in comparison with V.1.20 noticeable.

Then I tried copying the Qt DLLs from the working V.1.20 to the folders of versions 1.21 and 1.22.1 - that did not have an effect - still stuttering like a mess.

Next, I tried replacing the web-client folder found in version 1.21 and 1.22.1 with the folder from the working V.1.20 and this fixed it - it is buttery smooth again - on both machines!

@ShaggyDragon Maybe you could try that as well and see if that also fixed this for you?

#Edit: Also stuttery on my AMD Gpu machine and another Nvidia machine… - Also present in the latest version 1.23.2.3194-7787f5be. On a desktop / small screen it’s not that present but on a TV even more.

Running 1.23.2.3194-78f5be on an RTX2700 and the UI is a stuttery mess. It’s been this way the last several release. Used to be quite smooth.

Unfortunately, Version 1.24.2.3216-59dc6103 shows the same stuttering behavior…

Is this something plex is aware of? Sorry to ping you again @gbooker02 but maybe you could take a look at this or hand it over to the “web-client” Ui team? (As I described above it seems that it is not a problem with the Qt framework)

Can we help with something on trying to fix it? (Logs already attached by me some posts earlier)

Hmmmm

Just auto updated to the latest version and scrolling etc is jerky and slow.

I’ve tried turning on Reduce motion, turned off backgrounds etc, full restart, updated GPU driver.

Even the remote control response seems sluggish.

Running Win 11 Pro on an oldish 2700X with an ageing RX580X. 16GB Ram. Plex and media on SSDs.

It is rather strange that I’ve not had this issue on some versions but have on others.

I jumped in too soon on others when it appeared resolved for me.

Might do a clean install.

That sounds bad. Have you tried my method of changing the web-client folder? (with the one from version 1.20)

I really hope that someone at plex will take a look at this, as it destroys the user experience quite a bit.

Ended up being a display driver issue, not Plex HTPC.

All good again.

Great you got it fixed!

Unfortunately, it is still sluggish as hell on my windows pcs. On my RX580 machine, I booted into my arch install (just openbox as xserver window manager) and tried plex-htpc there. It is buttery smooth, so I guess this is a windows related issue.

Just want to bump this one again, as it is still not fixed. On my AMD system its really bad.

I made some recordings (Nvidia system) of how bad it really is. I hope it’s fine to post them via google drive.

Version 1.20 smooth =>

Version 1.26 slow =>

Where i can download PlexHTPC-1.20.2.3110-6f190192-x86_64 ?, can u share please?

Unfortunately, I don´t have the installer on my PC right now. I also have no idea if it would be okay to share those installer files as a normal forum user…

Maybe one of the Plex employees can help? The old download link for Version 1.20 also does not work anymore.

bump

Still present with the newest version 1.28.3, although I think it got a little better on my Nvidia setup.
I have not tried it on my AMD system yet but I guess it is still bad.

@Moussa Maybe you can take a look at the issue?

I found the installer on one of my machines. I hope it does not violate any forum rules, if so please feel free to remove the post!
