Plex HTPC - Movie covers flash/reload sometimes - UI Bugs

Player Version#: Since 1.47.1 (estimate)

It started just recently, unfortunately, I don´t have a precise Plex HTPC version, but on version 1.47.1 I know for sure it was visible.

Sometimes when Plex HTPC is opened and you navigate through the UI, you see a visible “flashing/reloading” of the cover artwork. (Coverart shown - grey - Coverart shown) When selecting the next item, the artwork also flashes/reloads. I´m not calling it “refreshing” as the cover art stays the same and it’s not the same as when the artwork is really changed. It’s just a small switch to grey and then back to the artwork. This only happens for maybe 5 or 6 items you select (but not specific items - any item selected does this) then when you select the next item it’s not happening.

It’s also not happening every time you open Plex HTPC. I will try to gather a screen capture (probably next weekend) and the logs.

Not seeing the issue here.

Win 11 Pro 22H2. AMD CPU and GPU.

Okay, I´m seeing this on my main Win11 PC (AMD CPU and Nvidia RTX3060ti) and on my Win10 (AMD CPU and RTX3050) HTPC.

I can’t comment on the Nvidia but AMD currently have issues with display flash and blank screen and even frozen screen with last couple of GPU drivers.

I played a lot of material since my post and have not had any issues.

480p through to 4k, with various audio codecs.

My Plex HTPC settings for GUI display are default. Latest GPU and Chipset drivers.

My two displays are both Samsungs, one an ageing NU8000 and the other an OLED.

Both are fed RGB 8 bit via HDMI through Denon AVR’s. I have switched back to YCbCr too many times and have settled on RGB as HDMI 2.0b seems to handle RGB and refresh rate switching better. I kept getting no signal with YCbCr with refresh rate switching selected.

This sounds like a completely different error. I would suggest you open a new thread for this one…

Here is a gif showing the issue:

Plex HTPC version 1.48.1 - No idea what is causing this…

No thanks.

Good to hear it’s unrelated to your issue.

Hmm maybe a cache issue? I’m on MacOS but sometimes when I clear the Plex caches the artwork will “flash” or “pop in” upon relaunching. However yours seems to be stuck in some kind of loop. Not very windows savvy but have you tried reinstalling HTPC and clearing the cache? Or maybe try an older version of the app? Very strange.

yeah, something like this… Although after scrolling through 5 or 6 items the next one is not doing this - no reloading. It also seems to only really happen when the app is in fullscreen mode. I will try deleting the cache, maybe that helps.

cleared the cache… (over 3.7k files - lol) but same behavior…

Update:

I thought it somehow vanished (as I was not seeing it any more)… but nope unfortunately it is still present and just appeared again… weird

Still present in the latest Version 1.49.

++++
Now, when existing a movie the cast row is not present anymore. You have to get out of the movie overview screen and click on the movie again… then its back.

Is anyone else seeing this behavior? It’s weird, every time, I exit a movie the cast is not shown anymore. Need to re-enter the movie to have it back…

Yep just noticed this bug a day or so ago on MacOS. I think it started with the most recent update? Or at least with the last 2?

Just checked on my two installs - no, cast appears as expected.

Both Win 11 Pro machines. Current Plex HTPC version and latest PMS version. Both AMD machines with latest drivers (minimal GPU Adrenalin installs).

I have refresh rate switch on but resolution switch off.

I use a 1 second delay on refresh rate switching as my AVR is a little slow.

Thanks for the confirmation. This was probably introduced in version 1.49.0. I thought I was the only one with this issue. Maybe it’s just an artifact of the changes we will see later this month on getting directors back… (Can we have the "written by" and "directed by" fields back where they were? - #8 by McWanke)

This issue is also independent on resolution or refreshrate switching state, on my remote machine, the issue is also present (it has these options turned off.)

This along with the other GUI issue you are having, more likely something not related to Plex HTPC as I don’t see either of the issues you have.

You run a modified Plex HTPC install don’t you ?

Hope you can get a resolution to your two issues.

I´m not sure, what exactly you are referring to. Yes my Plex HTPC install is indeed custom, however only the mpv.dll is changed, no other change. This should - in theory - not have any effect on the GUI behavior.

Everything else works fine, resolution/refresh rate/hdr/metadata/passthrough, etc. works perfectly. On my remote machine, I only have it disabled, as I don’t need these features. But! the GUI issue is also present there. So maybe my response above was a bit misleading, my bad, sorry.

The other issue with the flashing/reloading has vanished somehow. (well, it became less)

But for reference: You are also having the Gui issue with the cast not showing up after playback?

No, I’m not. You may have missed the ‘comma’ I used.

I indeed missed the comma. lol. You are running the latest version?
Interesting though that @MrFancyPants1999 is also seeing the issue - so there is something going on there.
