Home Server Build

Hi Everyone,

New here, so go easy on me.

Been doing a lot of reading around what would be a suitable build to run Plex Server on, and it’s always difficult to gauge, as everyone’s requirements seem quite different.

So if I list my planned usage, as well as my PC Partpicker build for home nas/server… let me know your thoughts if it will meet requirements.

Media: DVD’s and Blu Rays ripped with MakeMKV… for DVD’s stored as is. For Blu rays I will use Handbrake to transcode them… not sure to what type yet.

Usage: I plan on having maybe 4 streams maximum at any one time. Mostly it will be on home network, on Samsung TV or through Chromecast. But there may be instances where 2-3 streams are not from home network

Internet: At home I have 200mb download, and around 11mb upload.

As for the system I’m planning to build:

PCPartPicker part list: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/hrNHFt

Power Supply: be quiet! - Pure Power 11 400 W 80+ Gold Certified ATX Power Supply (£45.98 @ Aria PC)
Total: £649.87

What do people think, would that spec serve what I need… or is it overkill?

Many thanks in advance

I’d be surprised if you could stream 2 4k remotely for that matter not because of PC but internet bandwidth, currently I have gigabit internet and have noticed sometimes according to plex the bandwidth on some of the 4K I play is 40-100mbps upload speed to another client from my server… so you might look into upgrading internet… unless you want lower resolution until you get your bandwidth straightened out, part of the reason I decided to go with FIBER internet to allow my UP/L and DN/L to be symmetrical. I mean 40-100mbps is 4-10megabyte a sec. For some reason I’ve seen mine peak at a 150-250 on blueray 4K HDR 10BIT that was transcoding down not sure about it so much I’m very new to this. But just wanted to tell you what I’ve experienced. Good luck and God bless
