Home User PIN security

Hey. I think they should change the PIN security when logging into your home user (after main log in screen). I think there should be an option for the user to choose between different types of PINs (i.e. 6 digit PIN, alphanumeric password, 4-Digit Pin, Button combo for consoles). Like many users have said, clients like XB1 and Firestick don’t have keypads on their remotes, so guests would see me entering my PIN every time.

Speaking of PINs, I think this is a major security flaw in which only the admin can set a PIN for managed users. As a IT technician working for my local electric company, this is a serious security risk. Only the user him/herself should know their own PIN, and no one else. Sure, the admin should have the ability to reset the pin, but the user should be able to create it first without asking the server admin and the admin should not know what the user’s PIN is at any time regardless of reason.

Just for clarity/context and not to diminish your suggestion: This is about managed users (e.g. your kids) who don’t have their own account.

I suppose your main suggestion (different types of pins) is tricky as that pin will need to apply to all devices of that managed user… so a button combo for the Xbox/Playstation clients will leave that managed user devastated when she/he tries to access Plex on a phone / the web app.

Keep in mind that the pin is not a real security feature. It is more of a deterrent from accidentally using the wrong account with Plex Home. Plex Home members are intended to be users you trust. If you really need to keep people out of your account, Plex Home should not be used.

I have 4 kids and each has their own login pass which I gave them so it works as I want/need it to.
It sounds as the op’s users should have their own plex account instead of them being a managed user.
