How can I access specific .mkv files in a folder?

I have aPlex Server Library that points to d:\Plex\Concerts.

On my SSDI have
d:\Plex\Concerts\Dave Matthews Band - The Concert In Central Park

In that folder I have
Dave Matthews Band - The Concert In Central Park - Disc 1.mkv
Dave Matthews Band - The Concert In Central Park - Disc 2.mkv

I am using the Plex Web player in Edge.

When I view my Concerts library I find the above concert. I can open the item. I can play the movie.

I have not been able to figure out how to select Disc 1 vs. Disc 2.

I also have not figured out how to rewind to the beginning of Disc 1 if the player is playing Disc 2.

I have not been able to confirm that the player will play Disc 1 and Disc 2 as one movie.

And in general, I am not sure if I should

  1. use the Disc 1 / Disc 2 naming convention
  2. use the pt1 / pt2 naming convention
  3. use a tool to join the two mkv files into one

I also have other Concert libray folders that contain extras. (MKV files that I would like to browse and play, but not associate with the main movie. So I have similar questions regarding folder browsing and MKV file selection using the Plex Web player GUI.

I have Googled this topic and tried to find the answer on my own, but I have come up short…

Thanks for your assistance.

This is what Plex has about movies in multiple parts:

I’ve never had such a movie, so I can’t answer about picking which part to play, but the above article may answer some of your questions.

Yes, that is one of many articles I have looked at.

I have tried several permutations on naming my “part” files. Getting the parts to play as a whole has eluded me. I think I will join the parts into one mkv, as suggested.

But that still leaves me wondering how I can access extras (.mkv files with interviews, alternate videos like small venue recordings, etc.) from the Plex player. I see no UI for showing the files inside a folder… The player shows me the folders in my Library, but not the files within the folders.

I am probably just missing something simple.

Thanks

I have one such movie and I have both parts in the same folder name using the Part01 and Part02 convention. Plex plays the 2 parts seamlessly and shows the total combined runtime when opening the movie page but the individual Part length while playing.

I can however not figure out how to get back to Part01 without resetting the movie to unwatched.

Using MKVToolNix to join the parts works well for me. I can move forward and backward through chapters and the entire concert plays as one. So solved…

I would still like to access the extras from the Plex player UI. But just having them ripped and organized on my SSD is better than searching for the physical disk, loding the OPPO, finding the remote, etc.

If anyone can provide insight into getting a listing of MKV files within the Bluray/DVD folder within the Plex Library tree, I would appreciate it.

Short answer is there isn’t, if I understand you correctly.

Extras for movies only get displayed on the pre-play screen for the movie underneath the actors pictures

There is no folder or library view for those items

You have to follow this guide so they’re named properly
