I have approx 500 movies and about 150 of them have metadata within the file properties with movie titles different than what I’d want showing. For example, instead of “Jaws”, it shows up as “Jaws.1080p.1976.blahblah.blah”. After Plex reads all the files into the Movies section and updates all the posters, titles, etc., I have to spend a lot of time editing too many of my movies. And the more I get over the years the larger this problem will become.
Also, a lot of the posters revert to screen grabs and I have to point to URLs for the posters again.
This has happened 3 times now, the most recent when I moved all my files from my laptop to a NAS and installed Plex on the NAS to completely eliminate my laptop from the process. I’d like to avoid it again the next time something happens, such as if I keep a backup copy of my files on another hard drive and have to restore someday when my NAS craps out.
Is there a way to have Plex write all edits to a file that can be copied with all the movies, and used to repopulate the movies automatically? If not, I’d love this feature added.
Plex will not overwrite the embedded metadata in a file.
So assuming your folder and file naming is correct you can either remove the incorrect embedded metadata (there are tools that automate this), or move the LMA (Local Medis Assests) agent lower in the priority list of agents so the embedded metadata will not be used.
Source Priority
You can adjust the order of the metadata sources, which sets their priority. To do so, grab the “handle” indicator on the left and drag up or down to re-arrange the source order. The priority helps determine from where you get your metadata.

This isn’t exactly what I asked for, but it definitely solves the problem! Thanks! That’s why I LOVE asking questions in forums with helpful people.
Tonight I’ll adjust the order and never worry about it again, and if I ever have to install/reload I’ll make sure the order is set first.
Thanks!
