Metadata Editing preferences and options

I would like metadata and info editing options most notably two in particular. First is there a way to have plex strip and overwrite the metadata on the actual video file itself, it is extremely annoying that plex reverts to the downloaded file name rather than the new movie title in the library. at least having an option for this would be most useful instead of having to rename them manually. second feature i would like to see in addition to just overall editing options in preferences is the ability to turn off the suggestions plex gives you when editing a movie title, i frequently end up scrolling over these options or mousing over them with the mouse when I hit enter, i think storing a version history is useful but maybe having a button in another place would prevent the accidental clicks and crap.

If it ended up using the file name it is generally because either one of two things

  1. It could not find that movie in any enabled online database.
  2. The file has embedded metadata for title which matched the file name and the local media agent is above the online database agents in priority so it is using that instead. Many apps like handbrake used to rip/create files embeds the file name in the Title field of embedded data in the file.

yes i understand what the issue is and it’s cause. i am asking for a feature in the form of a preference to overwrite to have plex overwrite this metadata, the scrapers are finding the correct movie however it is retaining the data embedded in the file rather than using a different source. this did not always happen either this started happening within the last year i have been using plex for many more years than that.

if i add a ton of movies at once or have to rebuild my database this is a huge pain in the ass.

also the metadata and database editing tools have no preferences at all i think they should have extended options i mean a button to purge all metadata in the source file and on the database would be a great button to have if not a preference or other feature for the above.

We decided long ago we are not going ever going to enable actually altering files in any way.
