I have many movies with “title” names within the actual files properties. For example Fight Club would have a title within properties “fclub2000”.
Plex will locate the thumbnail and all of the other info for the movie and show it on the server properly, except for the title will be “fclub2000”. I am in the process of manually clearing all of the personal info from these files but my question is if Plex can locate the proper movie info, is there a way to make it transfer that metadata to the movie files and or overwrite the current metadata?
Does anyone know of a program that will wipe out my metadata at least? I have been using Filebot for the filenames yet as stated above it does nothing for the way they appear on Plex.
If your file names are in order (e.g. the filename for Fight Club should be like Fight Club (2000).mp4, see https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/sections/200098856-Naming-your-Movie-media-files),
then just tell Plex to give metadata from online sources priority over embedded metadata.
Go to
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Freebase
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
And drag down the line’Local Media Assets’ so it sits below the lines ‘Freebase’ and ‘TheMovieDatabase’
After you made this change, you must perform the Plex Dance with the affected movies.
Plex will not touch your movie files, so it won’t write “proper” movie info back into your files.
