How can I fix out of sync sound on (LG) TV. It runs webos 3.0.

Sound was fine for quite a while, but the last month or more we have noticed the sound played from the server is out of sync. We have used the sync function on the tv to correct as much as we can but it isn’t enough. The sound lags the video by too much to correct with the TV sync adjustment. We are using a PR4100 as the server and I have tried turning off allow direct play and streaming. Then, the movies won’t play at all - can’t figure out why. Files only play when direct play is allowed. The video and sound are just fine on other TVs and iOS devices from the same files whether transcoded on not. Must be a plex app issue for (LG) TVs. I also can’t understand why the LG app won’t play a transcoded file. I get a message that says it couldn’t play and something went wrong. I’m thinking PLEX folks need to take a look at the LG app and perhaps the PR4100 server version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The sync issue sounds like an issue with your TV. It could be the case that there is a delay property in the container used to adjust the audio timing. I sometimes do this with mkvtoolnix if one of my videos is a little out of sync. Whoever encoded the video may have done this. Not all players support this delay flag. If you are using direct play for that file, your TV would be doing the decoding of the file, which would be why it’s not respecting the delay (thus not plex’s fault)

To test if this is what’s going on, you can load the file up in mkvtoolnixgui and check if there is a delay property set

Thank you for the response, but that wasn’t the problem. The files are simple mp4 files I have generated from mkv files of my BR movies (I use mp4 to minimize transcoding on other devices). It is very interesting that it only happens on that particular TV (2016 75" LG 4K). The video file is being played direct on this and other TVs. I believe you are correct in that the TV or plex app for this TV (WebOS 3.0) is the issue. I have noticed many bugs in the app, or compatibility issues, on the LG that don’t seem to show up on a Samsung SUHD or other HD and UHD TVs or XBOX ONEs we use. Just very puzzling.
