How can I get Plex to shuffle all songs in my library and not just shuffle the ablums?

When I imported all of my music to my library in Plex from my NAS, Plex put all songs from the same artists into one, for a better name, album. So when I play back now and use the shuffle command Plex just shuffles the “albums” and plays all the songs from one artist and then starts on another. Is there a way to shuffle the individual songs?

This is very unusual behaviour.
Please share a screen shot, how your music appears inside of Plex.

Does your file and folder organisation resemble this?

Here is a screenshot of the albums or collections that Plex created, and then a screenshot of the songs that were put inside of the Adele album. They are all like this. Also, yes my music folders are separate and I directed Plex to the exact folder where my music was stored. I was specifically picking my FLAC files, in my Music folder. Hope this helps.

The first screenshot is showing your music ‘Library’ in ‘Artists’ view mode.
You can change that to ‘Albums’ or ‘Tracks’ by clicking on the word ‘Artists’ above.

The second screenshot shows a single ‘artist’. All of this artist’s albums should appear a little bit further down.

See https://support.plex.tv/articles/200392126-using-the-library-view/ for more details.

Return to the view of the first screenshot.
Unfortunately, in your screenshot you cut off the icons which appear above. One of them is for shuffling. Click it.
It will shuffle all tracks of your music library. Not by whole albums. Track-wise.

The icon marked with an arrow in the upper region of this screen shot starts the shuffling

To verify that it shuffles track-wise and not album-wise, click on the ‘Play Queue’ icon
(in the above screen shot on the lower border, marked also with an arrow)

Which then shows us the play queue which, as you can see, shows single tracks, each from a different album:

Thank you! I will give it a shot and report back. I really appreciate the help.

Perfect, thank you again.

I am having this same issue but I don’t have those shuffle or play buttons on my desktop’s Plex Media Player.

This is the old Plex app from the Microsoft app store.
Don’t use it.
Use either app.plex.tv or install Plex Media Player (download below).

Thanks!

Thanks OttoKerner for the tip. And yes, in the new Plex Media Player it is possible to shuffle all your music.
However, up until a couple of days ago, I was able to shuffle the music from the WebClient [app.plex.tv], but today I found out that this shuffle button suddenly is missing.
I do have Version 1.16.2.1297 of Plex Server on Windows.

What happened?

Same, I just noticed it myself, thought I was going crazy. If you access your library from localhost the shuffle button is still there. Just updated my server Version 1.16.1.1291

Localhost:

Web App Chrome:

Web app Edge:

Web App FF:

Web App FF Ubuntu:

Exactly. LocalHost does still have the Shuffle Button!

Anyone an idea?

I think Plex staff must have changed something… I really miss this feature!!! I had left a session on my home PC and I remoted in just to check and I was still able to shuffle till I closed it and tried it fresh… I’ve tried three different browsers and Ubuntu… it’s gotta be web application side.

Use the local until they fix the hosted web app ('cause there is no shuffle button or any other in that area on the hosted web app)?
If you can’t use the local (from a remote location, I would imagine), you’ll have to wait until they realize it’s broken (timeline unknown), then fix it (timeline really unknown).

Through a Rube Goldberg patchwork nightmare you may be able to shuffle music from a mobil app onto a hosted web app. Let us know if that works. lol

I’ve notified the devs, they are looking into it now. Thanks for the report.

Awesome! Let me know if there is any information I can provide.

Cool! Thanks!

Note:
Here, on my local network:
If I open my mobile app (android) and the hosted web app, then begin a music shuffle from my mobile, then cast to the open hosted web app - it works.

I have no idea if this will work in the field, but you never know…

lol

I think I just hijacked someone else’s Plex session here at work. LOL That should work in theory.

Is that possible?

In theory (SWAG):
If the mobile app (WiFi) and the hosted web app (network terminal?) are on the same network and are open those two apps should see each other as host/target for a casting session.

Note:
If you work at the FBI - jackbooted thugs could kick down the paper walls of your cubicle when they think you’re sending government secrets to Plex.tv. If you work at Food Lion, don’t worry about it.
