How can I install the plex app (not server) on debian arm64

Hi,
How can I install the plex app (not server) on debian arm64 ?

thanks !

Select “Choose Distribution” at this link and download the Debian/Ubuntu ARMv8 package. Then, run the following:

sudo dpkg -i downloaded_file.deb

(Replace “downloaded_file.deb” with the actual filename you downloaded  .)

Then, complete the setup as described in the Plex Media Server installation article.

Thanks for the reply but this is the server. I wanted only the → player ← see my post. I want to use a player. How can I download the player :grinning:

Wow, I’m not sure how I missed that, sorry!

In the interest of providing a providing a viable solution, and since the Plex and Plex HTPC apps don’t support ARM

You could install Kodi and perhaps:

I know it’s not exactly what you asked, but may be the best available option. (I tested it on a Raspberry Pi 4.)

@BigWheel is there an update on the roadmap? There is a 32 bit HTPC package for longer now. Could we get the 64 bit version on flatpack please? Why does the 32 bit version not run on the 64 bit os?

@nagybal There is only 64 bit for HTPC, There never has been a 32 bit version. There is no ARM version if that is what you are looking for.

Oh God, as I expected. Do we have to go through the same journey as the native apple silicon player version, which only appeared as the excuse that the programming framework was buggy was shot by the specialist of the framework company ? And in best tradition not a single bit of information from @BigWheel when and what could arrive in future.

With sugar on top, fix it please.

There is no arm version and a far as i know there won’t ever be.

@BigWheel so what is the answer from Plex for linux arm users regarding a player ?

The one I gave in the reply just above

For what reason? Too expensive for one programmer, like 1 hours of work and 6 hours computing time?

Can we have the source code then please?

@BigWheel This is embarrassing, not only no answer anymore, also no consistency in the platform strategy
Server yes on ARM Linux, player no ? What is the sense behind that ?

I’ve already answered.

With all do respect @BigWheel , truly! We still does not know and understand the reason, the cause!

What is the point to have a server version for the arm processors and no arm version for the player. Why is it such a big deal to do it if the source is not available???

We are not some open source project where we tell folks everything.

The server and player, two completely separate apps maintained by two different teams. that require resources to maintain for, the I’m sorry to say, small number of people who need an arm player.

Despite your condescending determination that it will only take 7 hours and apparently never have to be touched again the answer is still no.

You are welcome to dislike that answer but I am not going to get into a debate about it.

@BigWheel Your last answer is now sufficient, but it took multiple follow-up to have at least a content.
Beside of that, you’re tone is missing the respect towards people who are also customer.

Moreover I would like to know how can I talk to the management of Plex ?

Disclaimer: I a not a native American.

@BigWheel if You maintain the code already for other architectures is really just matter of computing resources NOT human time. I believe if You would make some volunteers to do this for You, there would be plenty! #community
