How can I make my NAS connection secure?

I have a Western Digital MyCloud NAS with the Plex Media Server App installed.

When I use the Browser to connect it says Not secure…can I make this secure?

Are you connecting via https://app.plex.tv? That should provide a secure connection. If you connect via the IP address of the NAS, it will not be secure.

I’m having the same issue with a Synology NAS from the compatible list, and it doesn’t matter whether I connect via https://app.plex.tv or the NAS. The persistent error message is: “app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “SynologyNAS” securely.” I’ve played with every network security setting and I’m stumped… HELP!

I have read this page so many times…

I can’t even find my Security Settings. When I sign into Plex Web, I don’t have Server>Network as an option in my Settings. Toggling Advanced only adds Turn On/Off Settings Sync and Reset Customization. See attached image for how my Settings appear.

Sign in to your Plex account in the server.

  1. Go to Settings > Server > Network in the Plex Web App (and toggle the Advanced settings to be visible).

  2. The Secure connections setting can be adjusted there.
