How can I tell which channel was (or will be) recorded?

Server Version#: 1.22.1.4228
Player Version#: 4.53.0
Tuner Make/Model: HDHR Connect Quatro
Guide/Lineup name: Bell Fibe TV
Using XMLTV?: No
Channel number/Name: not sure

I live NE of Toronto, and get a strong signal (usually) from 3 different Global transmitters, at 12.1, 27.1, and 41.1. I also get a strong signal from Buffalo (2.1 NBC in this case) as well as a moderately strong signal from Rochester. I am trying to diagnose a poor recording last night (Saturday Night Live) which was on all 3 Global feeds and NBC. Once I set up the recording all the channels carrying the program show the recording has been set. I know I can fine tune the start time, but can I specify one channel? Alternatively, how can I find out which channel was recorded?

I’m wondering if my recording quality was the result of weather or something else, eg Plex picking a less than optimal signal.

Thanks.

Yes, you can force Plex to record from a specific channel by configuring Limit to Channel in the recording’s advanced recording options:

Also, you can see which channel the recording was made from by selecting it on the Live TV & DVR ->DVR Recording tab:

The same works for seeing which channel from which a show is scheduled to record.

What platform did you use for the DVR Recording tab? I don’t see that in the web app or Android.

This was from the hosted (app.plex.tv) web app, version 4.54.4. However, I did just notice that the channel details are only shown:

  • Before the recording is made.
  • After the recording is made, but has been deleted.

If the recording is still in your library, then it just takes you to the details for that program. Having said that, you can still find the recording channel information by looking at the XML info for the item (channelIdentifier). This is at Click on show -> More -> Get Info -> View XML:

Sorry for the confusion.

Ah, xml is a good tip. Thanks!

Thanks, folks. Some good things to check, and I didn’t find say of it in the documentation. Much appreciated!
