How can I turn off photo scanning with Plex Pass?

Photo scanning is buggy on my Plex server and often makes it unresponsive to the point where I have to kill and restart it. I decided a few months ago to turn it off entirely. Now I’ve subscribed to Plex Pass and it seems I cannot turn off the photo scanning feature any longer. I seem to be forced to keep it on.

Can anyone let me know how to disable photo scanning and the whole photo library when Plex Pass is enabled?

There is no disabling of scanning per library type whether you have plex pass or not. There is no difference in how it scans the same library. I’m not really sure what you mean you disabled it for photos a few months ago as such a toggle doesn’t exist.

If you want to turn off scanning of libraries automatically upon change detection then you need to turn that off in the server library settings. and/or refreshign metadata in scheduled tasks. It is for all library types not just photos.

If you are talking about analysis and tagging ( which is not scanning), if the photo library was created as a premium photo library, that is also in scheduled tasks.

A few months back I was able to somehow tell my Plex server to ignore photos altogether. I think I accomplished this by disabling the “iPhoto channel” in the Server > Plugins settings. That option is still disabled.

However, now I am seeing a constant stream of “Create X on Server” where X is a filename and Server is my server name. These look like image files, but I have no idea where Plex is getting them or how to tell it to stop creating these files. Then it eventually says “Finished processing Gabriella’s Pictures”. But I don’t know what “Gabriella’s Pictures” it means.

Is there a log that might clue me in?

I think I found it. Its not in the server settings, but available from the Plex.tv website. In the sidebar when browsing my material I could hover next to Photos, click on the “…”, choose Edit, click on “Add Folders”. There I was able to remove the folder that had been added and add a single folder with just one picture in it as a placeholder. Now my server has stopped indexing things.

Just out of curiosity, if you don’t want the photos added to the library at all, why not simply delete the library?

That is a great question @wowza7125. I guess I did not realize I could delete the library. Thanks for giving me that idea!

I was going to ask the same thing but figured you had some other reason for wanting a photo library with one photo.
