How do I add external subtitles with local media assets agent disabled?

I don’t want this agent messing with my media (Wrong titles are the worst problem), so I completely disabled it. But now there is a problem, external subtitles are not recognized. How to circumvent this new problem?

Completely disabling is a bad strategy.

  1. follow the guidelines for proper file names, so Plex can ‘match’ your media correctly, solely on their file names

  2. re-activate the LMA agent, then do this:
Go to Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
    Repeat the same under
    Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase

Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
+
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

@OttoKerner
I already know the naming convention, I even use filebot to rename my media following it. But even doing so this LMA agent keeps reading the metadata information stored inside the file and if a title is set as metadata information Plex gives priority to this name instead of the correct name that I give to the file.

Not if you drag LMA to the bottom of the Agent lists - as Otto Suggests.

I hate that Plex defaults LMA at the top of the lists - they’re hurting more folks than they’re helping.
I’ve had LMA moved to the bottom of my lists for a long time - that’s where it should be to start with.
We need LMA - we just don’t need it at the top of our lists because some of us do use MP4/M4V files even if Plex developers do not.
For me, the point is moot because I remove all embedded metadata from EVERY file before putting it in my library, but Otto and I spend most of our time telling hapless users to move LMA - so it will stop making their lives miserable.

lol

I don’t change my files because I serve them raw with the original hash.
I will try this approach you mentioned, moving LMA to the bottom of the list, I didn’t know about that, thank you!
—EDIT
I just saw now that @OttoKerner mentioned this as well. Sorry, English is not my mother tongue and I think I have “English Dyslexia” haha.

I have that too - and English is my mother tongue.

lol

Just in case moving LMA and ‘Refreshing Metadata’ doesn’t cure the issue - The Plex Dance® will:

The Plex Dance®:

  1. remove show/movie from library
  2. update library
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— update library, empty trash, clean bundles
  5. bring names and structures into compliance/ or the ultimate bundle reboot operation
  6. replace corrected show/movie into library
  7. update library

All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.
