How do I categorize this "movie"?

Hello Plex Community,

I have some kids movies for a new youngin’ that has joined the family. We are looking at adding the DVDs to our Plex library, but they are super weird compared to what I’ve traditionally seen (I have 4 of these DVDs).

For example, one of the DVDs I have is: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/324227-the-little-einsteins-the-christmas-wish

The DVD itself actually contains “4 Episodes” (The DVD uses the word Episode, which is why I quoted it): The Christmas Wish, The Northern Night Light, The Wind-Up Toy Prince, and Show and Tell.

We have 4 other DVDs from this same series that contain 3-4 episodes on them as well, so it’s more a one-off to this particular show vs specific DVD.

I’ve cross checked TheTVDB, but I don’t see the ordering of this DVD under TV Air Date or DVD list. Is there a way to properly categorize each episode for this “Movie”?

Those “special” dvd’s are always a problem, because they mix and match for a particular theme.

I would probably add them as a TV show using the proper season/episode naming.
Little Einsteins - S01E15 - The Christmas Wish
Little Einsteins - S01E18 - The Northern Night Light
Little Einsteins - S02E20 - The Wind-Up Toy Prince
Little Einsteins - S02E34 - Show and Tell

You could then make a playlist of those episodes so that only the Christmas episodes play after you add the other DVD’s.

The individual episodes are listed on IMDB, so a file name like “Little Einsteins The Christmas Wish (2005)” might work if you add it into a Movie Library. You might have to play with the naming to get a match (sorry, I didn’t try), and there’s probably not going to be a nice poster for the individual episodes.

Thanks for the thoughts leelynds–this was kinda my thought to try and convert them over to TV series, although it’ll look a bit weird since they aren’t contiguous :stuck_out_tongue:

You COULD add it to your TV library with a series name like “Little Einsteins Christmas Wish” and name the episodes S01E01, S01E02, etc. Then, let Plex try to match it, and when it fails or mis-identifies it, use the “Fix Match” or “Match” option and select the “Personal Media” option/agent. You would have to edit the Titles and synopsis for each episode manually, as well as add your own posters, etc. If you do that, make sure you have just that one show set to use Personal Media, and then Plex won’t try to find and re-match on each scan.

A little more work, but might get you what you really want.

This move may/will bite you in the back when you are trying to move media onto a different storage medium or any other situation that involves a new library scan.
So I can only recommend you to avoid doing that.
