Classifying Fringe Case Video

I’m not super organized and I’m new to Plex. I have a giant USB drive that contains all of my “Video” stuff (a mixture of Movies and TV stuff) I’m trying my best to better organize, categorize, and rename moving forward.

How do you suppose I would categorize and name this DVD I have? If I put it in Movies, it doesn’t show all the episodes. If I put in TV Shows, the folder contents are empty.

I have other titles similar to this where they don’t seem to qualify as a TV Series, but they have more than one title.

Sometimes those kind of DVDs can be tricky… they can contain movies associated to a show which occasionally can be organized as specials of a show, while sometimes they’re actually independent movies.

In your case, you seem to have gotten a DVD of independent episodes of that show (I guess they’re related as in being related to some kind of water rescue  )

Episode Name on DVD Actual Episode Links
Stranded s06e10 TVDb, TMDb
The One that Got Away s07e15 TVDb, TMDb
Pirates of Pontypandy s06e14 TVDb, TMDb
Norman’s Ark s06e24 TVDb, TMDb
Sailor Steele s06e18 TVDb, TMDb
Dinosaur Hunt s07e16 TVDb, TMDb

Plex will ignore files in a tv-show type library that don’t contain the season/episode information. So naming the files like this should do the trick:

TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
  Fireman Sam (1987)
    Season 06
      Fireman Sam (1987) - s06e10 - Stranded.ext
      Fireman Sam (1987) - s06e14 - Pirates of Pontypandy.ext
      Fireman Sam (1987) - s06e18 - Sailor Steele.ext
      Fireman Sam (1987) - s06e24 - Norman's Ark.ext

    Season 07
      Fireman Sam (1987) - s07e15 - The One That Got Away.ext
      Fireman Sam (1987) - s07e16 - Dinosaur Hunt.ext

Where .ext is a placeholder for the actual file extensions. The release year is optional but can help with getting better matching results.
