How do I clear a stuck trash can icon over a TV show poster?

Over the past few days, I’ve been re-encoding past seasons of South Park with better quality settings. Then replacing the files with the new ones and refreshing my “TV Shows” library in 2 to 3 season batches. I’ve done this (upgrading files with higher quality versions) with random movies and a few other, shorter run shows, but nothing at the quantity that I’ve been working on with this show. Usually, emptying the trash clears out the trash can icon like it’s supposed to. But for some reason, it now won’t go away for the South Park show poster. I’ve tried emptying the trash from the home screen along the library list on the left hand side. I’ve tried emptying the trash from the library screen from the gear icon dropdown menu. It seems to look fine when I check it on an Android tablet and my Roku, but not in Plex Web. I’ve tried a couple of different browsers (Firefox & Chrome) as well as two different access methods (using plex.tv and directly accessing my server via IP address) but they all show the stuck trash can icon.

I can’t seem to identify what file path is actually broken and causing the stuck icon… whether it’s one episode or several. I’ve clicked into the show and checked season by season, but none of the individual episode posters show a broken file path. And I wouldn’t expect it to since every episode I’ve had is accounted for and I’ve been emptying the trash along with each update.

Anyone have thoughts as to why the icon is stuck and how to fix it? I’m running Plex Server 1.1.4.2757 on a Synology DS1815+ with DSM 6.0.2.

I was hoping that adding a new episode from the current season would magically clear the stuck trash can icon. But alas, it’s still there. Do I just have to get over it and live with it, or does someone here know of some alternate fix for this?

Edit your library(s), go to the ‘Add folders’ tab and verify that every one of the folder locations in there still exists (if there are more than one folder listed in there)

Apart from that, you may want to perform the Plex Dance with the affected show.

Hmm, I keep my TV shows organized flat… i.e. one folder per show, all episodes in that folder. So there aren’t any missing directory paths since every season, every episode is in the same folder. I was really hoping to avoid the dance for multiple reasons. Mostly because it would reset the watch statuses. Given that there are 250+ episodes, that’s a lot to keep track of. Also, Synology’s Cloud Sync app would then try to re-upload all the files, that’s more than 60 gigabytes. :frowning:

Well, that is not according to the recommended structure. It might have side effects to do it that way.

No, it won’t. The watched statuts is stored independently. If you did not switch the metadata agent for tv shows in the meantime, then the watched status will be retained, even after the Dance.

Given that there are 250+ episodes, that’s a lot to keep track of.

Even if you had to set the watched status back by hand, you can easily set it for whole seasons and shows. And you can select several episodes at once and set the watched status for these episodes together.

I think it will do that anyway, if it detects that the quality of the file has changed.

Well, I couldn’t stand seeing that trash can icon so I finally went and did the Plex Dance the other day. The watch statuses were retained. But everything else? Gone. Custom posters? Gone. Tags? Gone. Summary corrections/adjustments? Gone. Hours of work, all gone. I really wish there was a way to have just acknowledged and dismissed the icon rather than going the nuclear route. Sigh… now to retrace all the steps I took.
