How do I download the version of Plex I paid for?

I purchased a lifetime pass to Plex when it was the Plex Home Theater and it worked fine. Now I am having problems with new Plex and want to downgrade versions. Where can I download the old version that worked and not the new version that do not?

For what platform?
What version do you want?
What problems are you having?
(BTW, you did not pay for a certain version of Plex, you did not “pay” for Plex at all. Plex is free to use.)

I am getting the following error when attempt to access my library:

Runnin the Plex Client on MAC - PlexHomeTheater-1.4.1.469-47a90f01-macosx-x86_64 and running the server on Debian - Version 1.0.3.2461

Old versions worked fine. Can I just please download old versions? I’ve used Plex for years and NEVER had as many problems as I have had in the past month with Plex. I just want to downgrade.

And I don’t want to turn this into a big troubleshooting email. I am not looking to spend 10+ hours trying to figure out why the new software does not work, I simply want to download an older version that did work so I can get back up and running like I have been for the past 4 years.

Have you tried OpenPHT?

Or, you can search for the older versions here in the forums. They are listed here somewhere.

Instead of Plex Home Theater, you should be using OpenPHT

Or you can use pre-release version of Plex Media Player

I appreciate the suggestion but maybe I’m not explaining it properly or you guys are not understanding what I’m looking for.

That really didn’t answer my question but deflected it on to some other software called OpenPTH. It’s kinda like I asked “how do I walk to the store” and everyone keep telling me how to use a phone.

I didn’t ask what other software I could use besides Plex Home theater, I asked how do I download old version.

Are you looking for an older version of PHT or Plex Media Server?

Also, using the version of PMS that you currently have installed the, best solutionon is to use OpenPHT, but if you are set on using older versions you are welcome to. Just let us know which one you are looking for, PHT or PMS

I think I need both. Both were fine before I upgraded past PMS 0.9.15.3.1674 so something before that would be great.

I tried using OpenPHT and I’m having the same problem. In my TvShows and Movies I enable the option to only show unwatched. Once I do that I can no longer access that library.

Heres some info from the OpenPTH logs. For some reason it seems to try and access a server on 127.0.0.1:32400 and it does not seem to like that. why can’t is use the local computer IP address instead of 127.0.0.1? I don’t think I have a computer with that IP on my network…

I also installed Plex on my windows box real quick and it does the same thing. Here is the logs from that. Again with the failed: URL using bad/illegal format or missing URL but this time it is useing the 192.168.1.254 ip address it just uses daskes instead of periods for seperators.

I tried using time machine to go back and use a version of PHT from July but that has the same effect. I think I need the server version to fix things.

You are Plex Pass, a new PMS got released this morning. I would try an upgrade first.
I though you have to wipe out Plex and start all over to dowgrade. Could be wrong though.
I just tested what you say is happening and it works fine on all my clients (5 of them including PMP). Maybe it is something else on your system.

I’ll install it when I get home and give it a shot and let you guys know the results. I would still like to be able to keep a couple of ‘older’ versions in my ‘backpocket’ so that in the future if things dont work I can just rollback.

If people could provide .rpm’s of the versions, I wouldn’t mind offering these older versions through http-downloads. If you take a backup of the entire system before upgrading (or just the database), reversing manually wouldn’t be too much trouble. I hope you are able to resolve your problem.

Plex Home Theater has been abandoned for over a year. If you want a similar UI and a app that gets updated, use OpenPHT.

I did the upgrade and things seem more stable. I can now access the library once I select unwatched only.

I have switched to OpenPTH.

It is upsetting that I found software that I liked and it worked. I paid for a lifetime subscription to that software and now that the software GUI has morphed into something else and the software has changed form PHT to software that I don’t prefer I can not downgrade to the version that I liked.

It is also very frustration that I can get 10 responses to this post telling me how to use other software and how to do other things and that I’m using the wrong software and all kinds of things that were not asked and no one can answer the one question that I asked.

You do realize this is exactly why OpenPHT exists, yet you are complaining. The community took it upon themselves to keep the PHT interface alive with OpenPHT. You could’ve downgraded if you kept the .exe. It’s hardly Plex’s responsibility to keep older versions of software in case of a problem.

Additionally, the reason you can not download versions of PMS older than 1.0 was explained back in June.
The info has been posted on the forum, sent out in email newsletters, and post on the Plex Blog.

But if you need it post here as well, here you go:

Plex shares our community’s passion for enjoying media across all devices. As new features are developed and existing functionality is improved, continuing to maintain and provide support for previous versions diverts resources away from making Plex better for everyone. To ensure we’re efficiently allocating development resources across all devices, we will be making some changes to the availability of our Plex Media Server as noted below. By focusing our efforts on the future, we can work to bring exciting new functionality and incorporate community feedback in ways that add value for everyone!

As part of this focusing of resources, versions of Plex Media Server prior to 1.0 will no longer be available for download.

We’re also taking the opportunity to clean up our download archives (which were growing somewhat impressively), and will only be offering v1.0+ from here on. Having issues reported against older versions and in general not doing everything to ensure people were on the newest release has definitely had an impact on our support team.
