HOWTO DOWNLOAD PREVIOUS PLEX VERSION

server-mac

#1

Since Updates are repeatedly breaking PLEX playback capabilities, I need to be able to DOWNGRADE PLEX. :/

So: Where can I find previous Plex Media Server downloads for Mac OS X? and don't tell me to go to macupdate or some other site for that. I need the original file from this here website.

Please post the links here, thank you.

that doesn’t exist.

could you please elaborate, trudge?

this here website only keeps the links to the latest version - older versions are nuked.

#5

thanks for clearing this, trudge

older versions are nuked.

i seriously doubt that. probably they’re just made publicly unavailable.

as long as updates worsen the user-experience, i don’t understand why downgrades should be made impossible by not offering previous versions. … guess I need to change this issue into a request then.

Lessons learned: download and store yourself so that you can always downgrade once the developers “increased” the user experience

Post your server logs trying to play the .mkv files - I’m always on the latest version and never have an issue with them so it sounds very fixable if you provide some relevant info.

Here’s the text from John’s note:

I decided to add this discussion for instructions on downloading previous versions instead of always linking to a post I made on other threads.

You can download previous Plex Media Server versions directly from Plex you just need to know the version numbers which I will list the versions I have back to 1.4 at the bottom of this post.

Basic process is to go to Plex.TV/downloads and right click on the link to download the current version and copy the link address. Paste it into a text editor. For example the current version download for Windows is:

https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.9.3.4290-9798172d4/Plex-Media-Server-1.9.3.4290-9798172d4.exe

If you are using a different OS the method is the same you would just have a different URL. For OSX the URL would be something like:

https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.9.3.4290-9798172d4/PlexMediaServer-1.9.3.4290-9798172d4-OSX.zip

You then need to know the prior version number, the full version information not just 1.6.1. For 1.6.1 the version info was: 1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf

We then replace the current version info (1.9.3.4290-9798172d4) with the prior version (1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf) we want to download so the new link for version 1.6.1 becomes:

https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf/Plex-Media-Server-1.6.1.3722-4955e31cf.exe

Paste the new link into your web browser and the download should start.

Thanks ChrisAWallace. Really did Not find that before.

Good post Chris, I had heard about and tried this prior but your explanation cleared up why it did not work. Must be the exact version number as listed.

Just tried and works a charm

Plex stores older versions of PMS on your mac when you upgrade. Check the folder Library/Applications Support/Plex Media Server/Updates There you have all the previous versions of the PMS.

It does but it is in “Go” menu and only appears when holding down "option key. Hidden Library.

Go menu/library/application support/Plex Media server/updates

Then, I believe it’s better to just go to archive page anyway for installers.

From my reading in other forums, I believe that the Updates folder is not going to be reliable. I believe it is supposed to be purged after an update.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Works on Ubuntu, too!

#18

Aren’t the installers located under Library/Applications Support/Plex Media Server/Updates “delta” updates? So they just upgrade from a previous version?? If you’re trying to downgrade it seems you would need a “full” installer instead.

#19

Worked for me just to start from the “Updates” folder when I tried (disclaimer: this was sometime fall 2017, no clue if Plex has changed anything since then).

I need the nas ARM7 version .
Any chance to find it?
